So How Was Your 2007?

Sun Dec 30, 2007 11:11 pm

Did you enjoy it? Did any spectacular things happen? Meet anybody new? Lost a loved one, be it a close pet, human, tree, etc? Are you prepared for 2008? I hope y'all had a good year and as well as a great 2008.. I will miss '07... The only reason I will miss 2007 is because I was accepted to go to a school that is way more friendlier towards gay kids, the non-conformist, non-cookie-cutter kids. I may not get to go back after the upcoming semester because of geometry and one ginormous poor choice I made..But I'm fixing it, and I hopefully get to stay for the 08-09 school year. And I met someone! The only 2 great things this year, other than that, it was depression throughout the year.

My 2007 sucked (as usual). Only good thing was that I got a new car in July.

Happy 2008 to all a-nutters!

It sucked. It's difficult to explain why, but a certain recent sad anniversary and the constant instability at home and at work have made it suck more than ever.

All the doom and gloom 2007 brought for everyone.....

My 2007 was pretty much same old same old, nothing too special happened. Bring on 2008, one step closer to leaving school and home!!!

Hmmm...apologies for following the trend, but 2007 was one of the worst on record for me!

Let's hope that 2008 is better...as they say, the only way is up!

Happy 2008 one and all!

To start with 2007 was quite bad, as I was ill and laid up for a month which really frustrated me as I hate sitting around and doing nothing. It got better though and turned out to be a good year. Hopefully 2008 will be even better  bigthumbsup

2007 was a solid year, and I'm thankful for it. 2008 - if I'm anywhere as blessed as I have been, I'll be doing stellar.

2007 started out as a real bummer.

1/11: My father passed. Dad was a career aviator. 4 yrs as a radio man on the A-3D (USN 1956-1960), and 25yrs as a Huey/Cobra driver for the Army National Guard.

3/1: My wife's grandmother passed. She was great. I never met my grandparents as they passed before my time, but she was my 'grandmother' too. I held her hand until the end.

The best part was on 9/10 when my daughter, Mackenzie, was born. Mac is our first child and we are fortunate that she is healthy here with us...

In the 5 years that I have spent living in this dreaded state of Arizona, 2007 has been one of the better years (the worst being 2005!!). First, I graduated from my A&P school and now I am finally meeting my challenges that I have set like 10 years ago. Better late than never. 2008 and beyond will definately be the best years because I will be living near DEN. I am very excited for this new adventure and very fortunate too! I deserve this!  wave

It totally totally sucked, if any of you remember my thread in Jan about my granddad facing certain death (he survived, improbably and is still here). My mum then went on to get cancer and came within a week of dying, following that she needed 2 months of radiotherapy in London, I broke my toe before my exams and various other elderly relatives died.
Can't wait for 2008!

My 2007?

Has been very interesting. To be honest

It started off bringing it in on MSN and a.net chat [when it worked  duck ]. I counted down to midnight with my best friends Tracy and Alistair and we agreed that 2007 would be a better year.

That it definitly has been;

I've re-gained contact with my aunt who had fallen out with the family several years ago, her son Lachlan means the world to me

I came out of the closet fully in February and it's been one of the best moves I've made; I don't have to hide myself anymore

I managed to book flights to London to meet Alistair who I'd been talking to for 18 months on MSN... What a brilliant day that was.. Cheers Alistair  thumbsup

I started 5th year at school and although it's been really tough work wise, it's so much better for banter with teachers  rotfl

Then, I lost a few friends because of some silly little argument that meant I made myself very ill

But gained them back very quickly when I apologised what I'd done

I met the most amazing man ever, but his ex got in the way so that buggered all chance of a relationship between me and Paul

I went back to London and was given the independance and trust to wander around on my own.. only a fortnight from my 16th

I turned 16 and got to stay in the house all on my own  biggrin

All in all I thought 2007 was a good year, but I'd like to see 2008 make it better for me, a boyfriend maybe?

Looks like everyone's 2007 sucked just like mine. On April 16th my Grandmother passed away, then May 17th my Grandfather passed away, leaving my mother in a pretty bad way. Although she was in a bad way on Christmas Day and looks like she will be on New Years Day. I've been so worried about her over the months but looks like she is getting though it. Her brother has been trying to swindle the inheritance all year, not that my mother or her brothers or sisters are bothered about the money, just the principle. Luckily, we had a couple of pieces of good news this year My brother got married to a lovely girl, who is now expecting a baby in the Summer, and it's possibly twins. Hopefully next year may be a good year, with a little niece/nephew on the way, I just might find someone to settle down with, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Let's see...

For me, I started back at college to pursue a second undergraduate degree: a BA degree in Geography in Planning to complement my environmental geography degree from Millersville University of PA. Starting back at school at West Chester University of PA, I applied for a summer internship at the Lancaster County Planning Commission, for which I was interviewed on January 4th. 45 minutes into the interview, they hired me to fill one of the two positions.

Going into the internship, I had a big interest in traffic and road planning. However, my interest has shifted to more of transit and nontraditional transportation planning (bicycle and pedestrian planning). Lancaster County is trying to promote more bicycle and pedestrian friendly develolpment, including street enhancements, such as widening shoulders and/or sidewalks. 3 Years ago, they replaced the Fruitville Pike Bridge, one of the major bridges leading into downtown Lancaster, which included a wider sidewalk for enhanced safety to bikes and peds. They also want to replace another dilapidated bridge, Lititz Pike Bridge, with one similar to that of the Fruitville Pike Bridge, because this bridge also handles tons of bike and pedestrian traffic daily.

Prior to the internship, I had a fairly solid semester at West Chester. I earned a 3.2, and had 2 of the toughest professors. I got a C+ in one of the tough classes, but managed a B- in the other, which was transportation planning. This class also emphasized transit and bike/pedestrian planning. The transportation planning class, along with the internship have changed the way I think about transportation planning. My interests are now in regional transit, especially with commuter rail service, as well as high-speed rail transportation like the TGV system in Europe. This semester and the internship have really motivated me for the Fall 2007 semester.

For the Fall semester, I proposed a research project involving a SEPTA regional rail line that should be expanded from Media, PA, out to West Chester, as well as courses in urban geography, GIS, Europe, and environmental planning. I completed my studies some 3 weeks ago, and ended my undergraduate career with a bang, as I earned a 4.0 for the semester, and a 3.6 overall, enough to make the Dean's List! I have many possible job possibilities unfolding for me now, including a possible Transit Ops Planner job at SEPTA. Others include a GIS job down at the University of Salisbury down in Maryland, and a traffic engineering company northwest of Philadelphia, which also has an expanding office in Harrisburg.

I really hope something comes through for me. This would really make my 2007 complete, and make my 2008 a whole hell of a lot better!!!!  crossfingers

Reading back over my initial response and everyone else's I thought I'd try and brighten this thread up a bit

The exams that I did sit in May went really well and the results I got were just what I wanted/needed.

My mum's radiotherapy gave me a chance to go to London for the first time in years and it is a city that I love. Also the Marsden where the treatment was is in the heart of Chelsea just off kings road, so not too shabby surrounding either.

I've had brilliant support from loads of people everywhere, from friends I've had for years to people here to people in shops that I've never met, for everyone who's helped me here, thanks it meant the world to me.

The school trip I had to Belgium was one of the best weeks of my life (even though I didn't think much of Belgium itself  duck  Wink

So while it has undoubtably been the worst years there have been some great bits as well

(sorry to go all happy clappy on you all, I'll be back to my normal cynical self in the new year).

2007 was near productive year for me. I started my own trade business late June/early July. That really got me focused in legal business terms. Other than that, this year, I had the opportunity to visit 3 new airports in the USA: Kansas City, Richmond, and Portsmouth. This past October, I moved into a brand new apartment complex.

Well, for me:

The Bad

  • Had my self confidence completely destroyed
  • Learned a couple of people I considered friends were lying behind my back
  • Learned my supervisor (at my last job) didn't care about the truth, though it was staring him in the face.
  • Came to realize my Resume sucks, possibly.

The Good

  • Paid off two vehicles, one credit card and most of another, my student loans, and my loans for my flight training.
    Lost 10 pounds
  • Finallycompleted my Mission Observer rating
  • Helped my Squadron successfully complete its Subordinate Unit Inspection, with my sections receiving a rating of "Excellent."
  • Helped my Wing successfully pass its USAF SAR-EVAL (Search & Rescue Evaluation).

Overall, 2007 was kind of a wash. I'm really hoping that 2008 will be better though.

2007 really wasn't that bad for me... school went well, exams went by ok, no significant deaths at all. Went on a couple nice trips, started flying privately.

In 2008, maybe get a relationship going and not let anything die!

crappy.

My mom died in April
My dog died in June
My sis-in-law lost her dad in November.
Northwest lost my baggage 5 times.
I was downgraded, diverted and delayed.
My house lost 35K in value since '99

Too many visits to the cemetery this year.

Happy:

I made a lot of money this year.
Had a great time skiing in Italy
Saw a World Premiere Opera
Made even more money
Put on a new deck
Saw some good shows in New York
Spent a lot of good times with good friends
Was healthy all year
quite smoking cigarettes
Fixed my dad up with his old girlfriend from '47
Made even more money
re-did my bedroom, bathroom, and closets.
Saw my uncle in L.A.
spent good time with my brothers and their families

Still, all of the money I made and good times can't make up for the loss of my mom. We were thick as thieves and I miss her. True, she was sliping, but she was still my mom.

You're lucky you'll even know your nieces/nephews. My first nephew was born in 2002, and to this day I still don't know him because my oldest brother, who's in a mixed marriage with a Turkish girl, lives in CGN and I live in SYQ, the same with the nephew from my other brother who lives near XFW. I'm still very eager to know my nephews. I didn't even find out about my first nephew until a year after he was born.

That sounds almost like one of things that have happened to be in these almost 5 years I've been working at the call centre, just additionally the fact that our account manager is the first person to blame for losing the account I and many others have been working in for a long time.

All I hope is that in 2008, I either get laid off (which means a juicy severance pay and the possibility of going back to Germany to start over again and also meet my two nephews and see my other half of my family again (including my family in Imperia and Foggia, and except for my cousin in Gelsenkirchen because may be a Schalke-Fan) or get transferred to an easy account where I can continue in the nightshift.

Good things:

Moved out of my parents house
Learned to pay bills
met new friends
got a new car that is fuel efficient
received vocational rehab for my illness
completed prep classes for college
got in touch with family members who had never called me in the past 10 yrs

Bad things:

nearly lost my family
roommate moved out on me leaving me with the whole smear

More good than bad. I hope to loose 20-30lbs next year and live a more happier life.

I spent half of 2007 trying to make a relationship better and the other half recuperating from the breakup. Yea, 2007 sucked. 2008 should be a big year for me though! I'm either gonna get my B.S. in June or December Big grin then onto grad school!  tongue  .

2007 could have been better for me as well both personally and professioinally, hopefully 2008 will bring something to smile about a bit more

Bad:
Experienced a lot of delays traveling, at least 1.5 hours each time

Good:
Finished high school
Got into one of the best prépa's in France

Other than that an uneventful year.

2007 kicked off poorly, 2 deaths in the family so that was a less than stellar start! It has picked up nicely, I graduated college, accomplished many sport/leisure activities/goals, and found a sweet consulting job, in transportation no less! I hope 2008 is going to be even better! Elections in the US, turmoil the world over, a finicky US economy; it's certain to be another interesting and eventful year! I wish all of A.net the best in '08

I stand corrected, I didn't know that.

That's ok, you weren't to know. I just want everyone to have a fab 2008, sounds like most of us need it.

Well, let me see...

1. Daughter born, she is sleeping really well
2. Became an uncle for the first time
3. Had all my family together for the holidays for the first time since 1983
4. Got a new computer that allows me to play FSX really well
5. Got a really good telescope
6. Went to the 2007 LV meet
7. Family got bikes for everyone
8. The vasectomy allows us to...well, you know...

Of course, I did end up going to the hospital for personal injuries THREE times this year.

December was a crazy, busy month, but a fat overtime check is coming.

And 2008 will start with a short family train trip to Reno.

Happy New Year to all!!

My children are all healthy and doing well, Personally it has been a decent year. No major events , just stressful and very busy. Frankly I cant believe how fast it has gone by. ! I worried alot about the troops , the war news was like 2006 up and down on a day to day basis. But I guess it is getting somewhat better. My bro made it home for now that is very good ..we were out hunting all weekend ! . He sure has gotten fast with that shotgun!.
Business was very good , worked alot of aircraft this year and some interesting projects .. look forward to 08
(If you want look in Civ AV, I have a post with all the serial numbers aircraft we worked on this year (GLOSS)

Thanks to all on ANET who I have argued , chated or conversed with this year . Hope to do it again next year with better topics of course.
You dig the hole .. I fill the hole . 100% employment !
