For all you who watch these shows, which one do you like the best? I personally like Man vs. Wild more but I still enjoy watching Survivorman.

Man vs Wild is a more flashy show, but in terms of knowledge and survivor skill Les Stroud of Survivorman destroys Man Vs. Wild.

Also, I've heard some downright wrong things said on Man Vs. Wild, particularly with direction finding.

Gonna have to go with Les on this one, Bear just goes for the Yuck factor all the time. He'll probably go the way of Steve Irwin in five years time.

The fact that Les does it without a camera crew is a big plus in my book. It's more of a real life survival situation.

He gets my vote.

For me, it's man vs wild, although there have been news articles saying he didn't all do it himself and he stayed a hotel etc,
I personly love watching them, always interesting, even if I do keep pointing out his bad uniform, him being ex army should know better....just because he was one of 'them' doesn't mean he can get away with such bad dress sence  Wink
Another thing that bugs me is that it's been let out he was what he was in the army...ah well, I'm just a grumpy soldier all round hehe, only people like me whine about stuff like that...!

But even after all that, I still love the program and so....

What's your point here?

Does it make it less "dangerous" because Joe Blow crosses it and makes it also? If anything, it makes it more relevant to what situations people can get themselves into by crossing something so innocent looking like that lava bridge. A fall is a fall. I believe in the beginning he even states he's in a national park in Hawaii.

The company that makes hiis show has stated that the show is fake and it was only intended on being a "how to" show in case you ever got caught in a certain situation. But still I like Bear better.

Well my vote stays the same then. But I watch these shows for different reasons: To learn about survival. Obviously Les Stroud winds hands down in that department. Bear just runs around like a hyper-active teenager (which you shouldn't do in a real survival situation, waste of energy and risk of injury), and eats gross things. I'd like to see Bear try what Les does: Be truly alone in the wild for 7 days with nothing.

Quoting Dragon-wings (Reply 14):

I saw one where he used his watch, I can't remember how it went exactly, but he did something like point the hour hand to the sun to find North and then his direction. Something like that. But it was totally vague, and would get hugely different results if you're a fair bit North of the equator.

He is a huge phony and dosen't really come clean about it. It's all nicey nice that he can manipulate the lighting to seem like he is crossing a scary lava flow.....but guess what....any 3 yr old could have crossed it without an issue.

Les is usually upwards of a days travel from his Rescue Crew which is usually about 20-40 miles when he puts it in distance terms. He usually walks a mile from his camera on some shots and goes back for it. That's hardcore for a 10 second shot.

The point of it is to show what danger is out there (close to civilization or not) and expose that to the viewers. Yes, sometimes they are closer than other times to civilization. Does that make it less dangerous where the lave bridge was?

Some people get hit and killed crossing the street; while others live climbing Everest...what difference does it make who's around in certain situations? It doesn't when you factor in everyday risk.

Survivorman for me hands down and for that matter you can add about 15 other guys and gals here at the station. Its a much more realistic show and Les has to put in more effort than Bear since he has to do all the filming himself. And as far as actual survival skills, I suppose you could drink water from elephant shit or camel innards but the risk of disease far far outweighs the few drops of water you'd get. Even in the desert, there are other ways of getting water into your system. So I vote for Les

Are you kidding? Half the shit he does is just for shock value. And if you're in a survival situation you should not be running around, dive rolling down embankments etc like Bear does. He does teach some useful things for sure, but compared to Les? Not a chance.

Survivorman for me, no doubt. It's not that Bear doesn't know what he's doing (I'm sure he does), but I better understand the methods shown by Les, many of which I myself learned as a scout. That, and I've got a lot of respect for the guy who essentially does his trek twice for a couple seconds of video. I've even got his Season 1 DVD! ?

going outside > any tv show.

regarding the poll here, this guy les does things that are really impressive, assuming it actually goes on as claimed, he is doing highly impressive things. i have seen the arctic episode and have to say, very impressive in this environment, especially the lack of hydration, after having been in this environment numerous times myself. his piss must have been dark orange.
