Bach Specialists? Need New Bach Piano Piece

Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:13 pm

Hey guys,

I mainly play romantic period stuff.., but I'm looking for a great Bach Piano piece. Something that isn't overplayed and something that is ear catching.

I would call myself an "intermediate advanced" player.

My repetoire includes:

Mendlessohn: Preludium E Minor, Scherzo E Minor
Rachmaninov: Preludes G-min, C#-min, and Concerto No. 2
Saint-Saens: Piano Concerto 2 G-min
Bach, Giga, Partita No. 1, Invention No. 13
Beethoven: Sonata "Pathetique" No. 13, "Moonlight Sonata" all 3 Movements
Debussy: Claire de Lune, and some Fantasy Pieces
Poulenc: Piano Concerto, Double Piano Concerto
Greig: Piano Concerto A-min, "Wedding Day at Trouldhagen"

(Those are some of the bigger pieces, just to give you an idea of my playing level)

Anyway, I need some Bach, so if you could give any suggestions, I would be grateful!

Had it been for Organ, I would have strongly advised the Toccata and Fugue in D minor. No, not the one you're thinking about. The BWV 538 "Dorian". Really great musical piece.
I specifically asked for it at my wedding - the organist was like "er... ok, so I will have some work to do after all !!!"

But you're looking for some piano, so I can't help you. Unless you start playing with your feet.
