American Patriotic Songs - Any Modern Ones?

Mon Jan 07, 2008 5:16 am

So, I've been stuck on hold on Telstra's customer service line (suprisingly, they're really good) and I've listened to Lo-Tel's I am Australian cover of the song and really like. I think it's really uniting. Here is the song :

I was just wondering. Are there any modern American patriotic songs? I know there is like Battle of the Hymn and American the Beautiful, but the most recent song is Lee Greenwoods - God Bless the USA, and that's not really that upbeat and funky. Are their any modern American patriotic songs that are upbeat and energetic like the Telstra one?

Cheers.

Yeah still not what I was looking for. Doesn't have the grabbing edge.

Oh there was a run after 9/11.

Toby Keith probably had the most infamous of them.

Going back to Vietnam, I would have to say one of the best was performed by the late Sgt. Barry Sadler.

Classic liberal bitch-fest. Definately unamerican, but that was both Joan's and the Dixie chicks forte'.

Samson was a biblical tough guy, but his dad Samsonite was even more of a hard case.

vomit  I can't stand that one. Easily one of the worst songs I've ever heard.

I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to the genre.

I'm really disappointed that a country with such an emphasis on music with the world's best rock bands such as Jimmy Eat World, Blink 182, Gin Blossoms etc, have not covered a traditional American Patriotic song.

Why are all the latest patriotic songs done by twang yeehaw singers? They'd be nice songs if they didn't use the fake Texas accents, use those whiny horizontal guitar thingies, and violins (fiddles).

Good question? Perhaps they are trying to out do each other..

Others (I don't know if they would be classified as Patriotic Songs)
Big & Rich = 8th of November (I guess one had to live in that time period; every time I'm in DC I always stop at the Vietnam memorial pay respects to classmates that didn't make it back);

That's it?? I thought it came out in the 70's

Gotta love that song!! I remember learning in school that Ben Franklin wanted the wild turkey as our national bird, and as I'm watching that video, I was thinking how stupid that would look with a wild turkey there instead of an eagle!!

Exactly what was 'unamerican' with what she said as an introduction? I can't find anything even remotely 'unamerican' in there.
