Friday's Stupid Thread - How Loud Is Your Printer?

Fri Jan 18, 2008 8:01 am

I am printing around 100 pages on my foolish printer and the noise is like a 747 on takeoff. How loud is yours ?

before you throw it away, place a thick mat of whatever material BELOW it . Most printers are not loud by themselves but produce noise if not sufficiently cushioned.

mine shakes the little table it's on. Well it's not really a table it's more of a set of metal draws from ikea with an old kitchen cupboard door on top of it.

THIS exactly is the point. Your printer may not be loud really, but can possibly be heard/felt by your neighbours. Place a cushioning mat below it, and the whole thing becomes much more comfortable. You might even place some cushioning between the "door" and the metal draws, plus an additional carpet onto the ground.

Please no word about printer. At my work they are trying right now to put a plexiglass wall in because of the noise of the printer. Half of the company is trying to fix it and now it's much louder because everyone is chatting and giving advices.

My Canon Pixma (what a silly name) MP210 is pretty quiet actually... not as quiet as my old HP Deskjet, but way quieter than the printer I had before that, an Epson Stylus Color 600. That sounded as though it was one of the old-fashioned dot-matrix printers!

My printer is absolute crap. Not only is it loud, but it runs hot, so after about 20-25 pages it loves to suck in like 10 pages and jam. Never fails.

I should really toss it of the roof.

I have a Canon IP2000 and it's just great - prints quickly and doesn't make much sound. I actually have two, one for home and one for university, unfortunately the home one somehow ate a table cloth, then it started making very odd noises and stopped working Sad The replacement, not sure what it is as my Mother bought it, is incredibly noisy - luckily I saved the old one from the tip and that will now sit on the workbench in the garage, waiting for a rainy day when I will hopefully mend it.

A) another proof that you all better throw that printer out, but not through the windows as police up from today at ZRH apt is rather nervous due to WEF. Upon delivery of something for our shop, was controlled by police and they took my ID for checking, somehow doubting my identity, which took quite a while .

B) I somehow realized your identity. Well, the party was quite nice, wasn't it ?

in around 1970 in my apprenticeship-time, we not only did not yet have any computer or fax, but had to do everything with mechanical typewriters and by telex. Only the secretary had an electrical typewriter, and our accountant worked with gigantic books and his two aides had to do writing with mechanical typewriters and by hand. To modernize my personal home equipment I in 1970 bought a mechanical typewriter "Triumph Gabriele 25" which I have still in the office, to take with me if some docs need completion outside the office. And we did not yet have photocopiers, but had to write the invoices on special inkpaper to be used then in that "water-printer".
-
and when I started school in the late 50ies, we HAD to write with iron pens mounted onto a pen-holder, and to be done into the ink-container inside the table. Only in the 5th year came the permission to use fountain-pens.

subject to replacement for sure, but at least the "earthquake" for the time being might be reduced by a good cushioning !!

No, didn't think so.

When at home, "my" printer is perfectly silent. It's because it either goes by the name of "PDFcreator" or is a network printer one storey lower. Big grin Other than that, my HP 1020 is pretty much OK.

Do you have a Dot Matrix printer

I have an HP Photosmart C5180... Silent.. It makes a few clicks when powering up, but other than that, its pretty quiet.

As for those who hate their printers...

I'm not sure about loud to humans, buy my Samsung Laser (CLP-510 or something like that) must make some loud/annoying noises not audible to humans because the pets run downstairs every time someone starts a print-job!
