I was surprised that American Gangster didn't get more nominations. I thought Phillip Seymour Hoffman did an outstanding performance in Charlie Wilson's War as best supporting actor. The only picture that I saw that up for best picture was Michael Clayton, and I didn't think it was that outstanding.

Viggo Mortensen, Eastern Promises

Mortensen deserves it; probably won't get it.

I didn't walk away from the theater all that impressed either. But the more I think about it, Clayton is a pretty good film. Not quite sure if it is in the same category as No Country for Old Men or There Will be Blood though.... Same thing w/ Juno. I really liked it, but not quite sure why it is getting as much buzz as it is getting. Similar to saw something like Garden State, but put together a lot better.

Anybody who can carry off a nude fight scene (no padding or body doubles, folks) deserves an Oscar.

checkmark  I for sure thought that Denzel Washington would get a nomintation for best actor, and or Russell Crowe would get a nomination for best supporting actor. Strange.

By the way, has anyone seen "There will be blood" at all? I just saw "Juno" and it was fantastic.

Yeah, I know - excellent film. I think because of the subject matter, that it alienated Academy voters. I mean, have a woman play a Queen and watch the Oscar roll in has been a recurrent theme in the last ten years (Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, nominations for Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett etc)

Quoting Bwest (Thread starter):
Juno

Would be cool if it won Best Picture, but probably won't...

Quoting Bwest (Thread starter):
Cate Blanchett, Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Very uneven film that could have been so much better, but she deserves the Oscar - if only to make up for not winning for the first movie. That said, won't win for this.

Quoting Bwest (Thread starter):
Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There

Cate should win for this...

Quoting Bwest (Thread starter):
Ruby Dee, American Gangster

But I think Ruby Dee will get it - they like to give old people Academy Awards.

Quoting Bwest (Thread starter):
Ratatouille

Can't lose!
I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!
