I've got one and so far so good. Only had it about two weeks. The GPS is pretty good. I've used one of those stand alone units, and it was telling me I was about 2 streets away from where I was. The Nokia so far is yet to fault me. It comes with a DVD with maps for many countries in Asia, Europe, North & South America and Australia. Apart from your home country you have to buy licences for the other countries which are charged at 49.95 euro per country or 9.95 euro per city.

Thanks Jono.
I plan to visit a showroom in the city to check out a demo,as soon as I get a break from Night shift, else it'll have to be a sunday.
I'm currently interested in maps of Mumbai & a few major cities in the country.Would the maps be sold single city wise or do I purchase the bulk country maps?

Are you sure you would get maps for BOM? India might not be street mapped yet... Just a thought

Hi MEL,

to both questions the best answer is: It depends on the service provider. Some service provider block a lot of functions which would be normally free of charge to squeeze some more extra money out of the customer. If you have a 6110 with all the functions unlocked (of course not the SIM-Lock  Wink), yeah then it is a good buy.

On the contarary it is.
There are two providers [satguide.in & mapmyindia.com] present too currently although the maps could be better.

True.
I don't mind spending for updates via GPRS,as it would not be very frequent & if its limited to Mumbai alone presently.

Nokia

You'd better keep that question away from around 50% of german people according to recent street polls. There is massive anger in Germany as Nokia has announced to close its profit-making mobile-phone factory in the german city of Bochum just in order to move production to Romania where the profit margins are even higher due to lower labour costs. Even more anger is caused by the fact that Nokia had received governmental money to open up that factory in Bochum ...
According to media (the reliable ones), people are avoiding to purchase Nokia's products for the time being - up to trying to exchange their current mobile phones for some other brand.

Curiously there was no such anger/move when Siemens (of Germany) sold its mobile phone business which then collapsed not too long after ...

Sorry to stray off-topic,

I would imagine that all the masp for India would come preloaded. All you would have to do is buy updates. I know some of the GPS manufacturers provide the first few map updates free, but I'm not sure about the nokia ones.

How can that be good? This means it can't be used for car navigation or even on-foot naviagation in a city.  Confused

just in order to move production to Romania

I read somewhere, could have been my daily, they were the last mobile phone maker to move away from Germany. This production move is also an intra-EU move that will benefit a new member state, and since the EU is a common economic area, everyone will be benefiting.

I have read in several german online newspapers that they now "ask" or even "offer" German employees to come with them and work (for Romanian wages of course) for them in Cluj, Romania - what a joke. Actually I tried that myself already to work in Hungary for Time Life with Hungarian wages etc. Then, and only then you can see really how hard the life for this people is, when you earn around EUR 450 netto per month for a full time job and the rent for a small room (excluding heating etc.) is already EUR 230, and food etc. is not that cheap in Hungary anymore, not at all.

Not really.
Just keen on the GPS & have found Nokia products to be more reliable whenever I've used them compared to other makes & the N6110 is just launched out here.

Might even be that Nokia is receiving money from the European Union for creating jobs in Romania (read: For movng jobs from one country to another).

On a neutral side note: Nokia is reported to having had created too few jobs in that plant in Bochum (Germany) that is scheduled to close. Money from the European Union received by Nokia might have to be returned.

And: Media tdoay are reporting that Nokia has offered its Bochum-employees to keep their jobs if they move to Romania along with their work ...

IIRC, the two SUV's (twins) Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg are manufactured in the same plant in Slovakia.
French carmaker PSA is marketing Romania-manufactured Dacia in Europe.
Definitely the old sayng "Buy a car from your national car maker and you save jobs in your country" is no longer true with car makers (and other industries) moving their production from one country to anothe revery few years.

No blame to anybody or nation in any of the above statements intended,

Firstly, moving this plant within the EU is not moving internationally in the pre-1990s sense, it's just the same as moving a plant inside Germany. This is what the whole elaborate system with the common currency etc was created for, only not everyone in Germany was aware of some of the consequences. If someone thinks there should be cohesion within the EU, he should also accept that not all industry can be located in Germany or Central Europe, the poorest regions as well have the right to industrial jobs. It's a two-way street.

There's was feature article in my daily just today on the new plant in Jucu, a poor town in the deepest Transsylvania. The company has received the lot for the plant and associated infrastructure as a donation from the Rumanian government.
There's no mention of any EU subsidies to the plant, and I don't think any company receives them directly but through a develoment fund. Of course you can just search the Commission's site and find out (bad joke).

Managed to pick the Nokia 6110 finally.
Unfortunately no service provider out here has A-GPS offered,so need to settle for GPS.
Currently feeding the contact lists.

Is there anyway to transfer the Contacts list from Sony Erricson P990i to Nokia 6110 navigator electronically. It will save me three days  Smile

Contacts list

You wil have to transfer your data from the SonyEricsson by their PC suite, store it, and do the same reversed on the Nokia by the Nokia suite. The interim application to hold your data on the PC will be Microsoft Outlook.

Great choice. My brother has one and I got to take it for a test spin for a day and yeah, I just loved the phone, except for the media player and the back gets heaps of fingerprints and when you try to take it off when you want to put a sim in it, feels like it will break.
