K-State Beats KU At Home-First Time In 24 Years

Fri Feb 01, 2008 12:55 am

Anyone watch the Kansas State-KU game last night...reeeallllyy exciting game overall, and great to see KSU win against KU for the first time at Bramlage Coliseum. Any opinions on the future of both teams during the season?

I see definite NCAA tournament for KU

Kansas State has a little bit more work to do to get there, I feel.

Nope...K-State is a damn impressive team with Beasley and Walker, and I believe they will be a lock for the tourney - in fact, come March, I'm tempted to pick them to go farther in the tourney on my bracket than KU....of course, after this season, K-State will probably take a huge step back as Beasley and Walker both bolt for the NBA...

We have 11 more conference games to go, a slip up could killus at some point.

It looks that way for me as well, they could end up doing a real good job in the NCAA's, and even make the second weekend of play.

From what I have heard, Beasley will be one and done, no question about it. The interesting one is Walker. There's been a lot of speculation saying that Walker will most likely do one more year at KSU to build his draft status. If so, it would mean another excellent team next year, with Walker, Pullen, Sutton, Fred Brown, Kent...who knows....

IMO, I doubt there will be a significant change-up in the current Big 12 standings...I see 3 clear tiers in the Big 12:

Top tier teams (in no particular order):
Kansas
Kansas St.
Baylor
Texas
Texas A&M

Middle-tier teams:

Oklahoma
Iowa State
Texas Tech

Bottom-tier teams (no postseason)
Missouri
Nebraska
Colorado
Oklahoma State

I see the top-tier teams making the tourney (though if any of them were to collapse and miss out on the big dance, I'd put my money on UT or TAMU - they both seem a little vulnerable this year)..middle-tier teams to the NIT, and of course bottom-tier teams have no post-season

I also believe that the competitive teams in the Big 12 North have an advantage over those in the Big 12 South, because the North is generally weak this year (with the exception of the Kansas schools), so those Kansas schools, will have a field day with the 10 "divisional" games against other North opponents...the South schools will probably beat up on each other more, because that is a more competitive division than the North....

What about Walker's family situation??? From what I keep reading, doesn't his family need him to go to the NBA ASAP for financial reasons?

I think he feels he can make more if he stays another year to become a lottery pick in 2009....he's got a good chance, if he stays, to be a top 5 pick in 2009.
