This is nothing to celebrate about. She is his third wife. Let's see how long this one will last and who the next one will be.  laughing

As to his politics, he has not proved anything. He has been part of many governments including as a Finance Minister. I have yet to see any positive changes from his action. France is way deep in debt. A great majority of people are living off credit and have it difficult to make end's meet.

There is no doubt that the couple will spend a lot of money on a lavish lifestyle at the taxpayer's expanse. Prince Albert of Monaco has his own fortune and he lives off of it. Sarkozy (nicknamed Emperor Rolex) doesn't. He lives off the taxpayer's money and off some of his "friends" generosity.  Angry

Not forgetting that he gave himself a pay raise of 240 % after he became the President of France.

His own fortune? You've got to be kidding me. What did he or any of his antecestors do to deserve this fortune? He lives off the wealth of the land, just like the Saudi Royals, it is not his own fortune. I know you have some sort of Pavlovian reactio to Sarkozy but at least try to get a better comparison,

France is way deep in debt. A great majority of people are living off credit and have it difficult to make end's meet.

And other countries aren't? At least France has not had a sub-primes problem. One could debate that most of the problems France has had is in their inability to have any fiscal control over their currency. Then we of course have the 35 hours which were a fabrication of the socialist party and extremely difficult to get rid of seeing how strong unions are. Don't come telling me that it was a success or could work, no other country did the same or adopted anything broadly similar.

Quoting MadameConcorde (Reply 1):
He has been part of many governments including as a Finance Minister.

Many? Let's see. As a Finance minister he was in power for less than 8 months, hardly much time to make many changes. That was under Raffarin's government.

He was minister of the interior (for about 4 years under Raffarin and De Villepin) much longer and did make sizeable changes under that function. His changes as a whole were positive. His problem was/is that he is too open in what he says which can often be misconstrued.

Now being in two different governments (three if you go back to Balladur's government) is not that big of a number.

Quoting MadameConcorde (Reply 1):
Not forgetting that he gave himself a pay raise of 240 % after he became the President of France.

Let's see he was to earn about 8400 euros a month originally now about 20000 per month. Both figures aren't really that extravagant considering the job he does. The first figure was quite ridiculous, most middle managers make more than that anyways. Also remember that the prime minister makes more than the president, hardly fair. An increase of 12000 euros per month is hardly a huge increase, that amount is ridiculous considered to the cost of strikes, people not showing up to work or other ways which civil servants (or people by being "creative" on their tax returns) find to defraud the country.

For the record, "their" currency is the euro, and it's controlled by the European Central Bank in Frankfurt... France's problem is a bloated public sector and an insufficiently liberal economy...

Good question. Since Sarkozy is ex officio co-prince of Andorra, is Carla now co-princess?

I still wonder about this guy who divorced the "love of his life" 3 months ago and now he's again madly in love? Sounds a bit unsteady for a person who can launch nuclear weapons (I don't know if French presidents can do that).

Yes. In France the President holds the secret "code" and decision to launch nuclear fire. He gets the code from his predecessor on the day of his installation before the official ceremony. Knowing it's in the hands of Sarkozy is certainly not reassuring. I thought Francois Mitterrand was more fit for this responsability. He had years of political experience behind him, more psychological balance and more concern for people. Sarkozy is impulsive and unpredictable.

Third in succession, to be clear about it  Big grin and possibly his wife until his second term as president.

-
The Grimaldi had a strategically located castle somewhere in the Provence, and took "duties" from travelling traders passing by, and at times relieved people of some assets. Prince Albert however apparently does quite good work in governing his country and increasing his finances and the finances of his country.

AND the fact that both leading politicians and leading managers are former students of ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration), the most famous of the Ecoles Superieurs. This means that all of them know each other, and are in constant touch with each other.

Well, the whole story is rather complicated.

Mrs. Bruni (now Sarkozy)'s legal father, Mr. Alberto Bruni-Tedeschi is not her biological father. Her real father is Mr. Maurizio Remmert an entrepreneur who lives in Brazil. He attended the wedding at the presidential palace.

Mrs. Bruni (now Sarkozy) has a child from (young) Mr Enthoven, the son of her ex-lover.
Now she has become the number three wife of the French President. He previously had two sons from his first wife (Mrs. Culioli) and one from his second wife (Mrs. Ciganer-Albeniz). He has now married Carla Bruni-Tedeschi and she is said to be three months pregnant.

Mrs Carla Bruni is now happy! By getting married to the French President she has just increased her livestock of several thousands of future lovers (bodyguards, police officers, ministers, secretaries, cabinet members, accountants...)

What's coming next... I wonder?  Confused

I do not really believe that France in general "worried" about this issue. France is neither Germany nor Switzerland ! But French people LOVE to badmouth their own government, and enjoy being against authority, even if in cases being part of "authority".
-
In case of Madame Concorde, you simply have to see that her candidate to the presidency lost out, not heavily but clearly. And of two right-of-centre candidates, Mr de Villepin and Mr Sarkozy, the more impatient, harsher, more power-hungry and more aggressive one made it into the Palais des Elysees.

Some children from Mrs Carla Sarkozy, and then new presidential elections, and AFTER those elections wife number four.

Not what I was talking about - the issue is of diversion away from the very real and much less glitzy issues and problems at hand. There doesn't seem to be much actual governing to be going on (or much proper journalistic work) among all this excitement about Sarkozy's private life.

Quite to the contrary, the smoke he produces enables him to carry on with the political business as right now the parliamentary decision in favour of the Lisbon Treaty. Sarkozy is NOT interested in media-attention on his politics, and so enjoys to "employ" them on his show. He usually gets into show when he has something to be done discreetly, like extensive commercial contracts with Mr Khaddafi and thelike.
