The Official A.Net Super Tuesday Thread!

Tue Feb 05, 2008 7:10 pm

Its Super Tuesday, how is your candidate doing. Personally I like Huckabee, but he appears to be overall a distant third.

http://www.focus.de/politik/ausland/...wahl/us-demokraten_aid_236647.html (German only)

Focus Online in Germany is saying that Hillary's chances of winning Super Tuesday are becoming slimmer. However, regardless of who wins Super Tuesday, it may still not be enough to obtain a significant lead in the delegate count, which means it may all come down to the final primaries/caucuses after Super Tuesday and just before the Convention. So even though this IS Super Tuesday, the Clinton vs Obama race may become even closer after tonight.

I voted in Maricopa County, AZ this morning. Largest county in the state.

Voter registration deadline was January 7. I registered online the day after the Iowa caucuses (technically I changed my party from a previous registration). I got my updated voter registration card in the mail about ten days ago or so and got my correct party sample ballot a day earlier. So, I went to the polling place and noticed an unusually high number of people being sent over to vote provisionally. I, however, was fully expecting to be on the list as I had my card and had gotten the right sample ballot in the mail. However, I was not on the list! My old registration had been crossed off but my new one had not been added. As it turned out, in order to be on the voting rolls, I had to have registered before January 1, despite the official deadline being January 7. I too had to vote provisional along with half of the other voters. In five days I find out if they counted it or if they completely disenfranchised me.

I registered before the deadline and over a month ago. I should darn well have been on that list.  whistleblower   gnasher

Alex , you are not alone . I voted in Pima (Tucson) county this morning , same thing happened to me and I re-registered in 2006 just to change my address. My name was on the list but they had my address from 2 years ago !! , so I had to vote provisional. The same thing happened to the guy in front of me , he was really pissed !
The poll worker told me that the provisional may not be counted !. I already wrote a letter to a local radio station here ,, they are trying to keep track of the voters this has happened too.

These people are planning on taking care of my health care .... Please.  flamed

I voted for Mitt Romney.

I also supported a local wheel tax of $50 per vehicle. If it does not pass the property tax will be upped a percentage. I believe taxes should be user based.

So far, Obama has won Georgia for the Democrats, while on the Republican side of the Georgia primary, the race is too close to call although McCain is leading.

And on a curious note, in the West Virginia caucus, McCain got a whopping 1% of the vote, with Huckabee actually winning with 52%!  Wow!

Obama now got only 3% of the vote in Alabama, though the race is still too close to call. It is true what people said, that after Super Tuesday, the race will still be too close to call.

Surely Ron Paul supporters and the man himself have to admit defeat and drop out of the race now! In all the states I have seen he is averaging only 5-6% of the vote.

A few of the rabid Ron Paul supporters I work with have said he's committed to running as an independent when he doesn't get the nomination.

I'll admit, while I'm not a huge supporter of his, I voted for Ron Paul - but only because Giuliani dropped out and I can't bring myself to vote for McCain or Romney.

I guess this will come down to California. Obama could still win this Super Tuesday if he wins in Cali.

As for McCain, he still seems to have a comfortable lead but the first of the two critical states, New York, is still too close to call on the Republican side.

Clinton's been leading Obama in the polls here for quite a while, so this isn't terribly surprising. And since the Democratic primaries all, IIRC, assign delegates proportionately, winning states doesn't mean nearly as much as it does on the Republican side. I'd guess that Clinton and Obama will probably come out of Super Tuesday the same way they went in - just about tied.

Hillary projected winner in Massachusetts and New Jersey. She was by double digits it looks like in Mass.. No matter what to me she just kicked the Kennedy's in the nuts for the "symbolic" win despite the Kenndy's endorsing Obama.

Clinton well ahead in Missouri but not called yet. Apparently precinct counts so far from Colorado, Utah, North Dakota and Minnesota quite strongly favour Obama.
