Home On Vacation?

Sat Feb 09, 2008 5:27 am

I'm trying to figure out people who take vacation and never leave home. Anyone know of people like this? I came in from both the military and being a F/A to an IT job within a national hardware company in Denver, CO. My claims person and her husband, which is also our head Inventory guy, do not travel unless they really, really have to go to our HQ in ORD for training. It's not just them either. When I was a F/A based in RIC, VA some of my friends wouldn't take buddy passes from me, but yet they would take a Harley Davidson bike from Prince George County, Va to Sturgis, SD. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but if you take vacation, shouldn't you leave home for at least a few days? If I have more than three days off I either have a plane ticket out of Denver back east or hit the mountains or somewhere, as long as it's not at home.

Anyone on this site can fill me in on the homestedder gig? I just ain't getting it!

A lot of my coworkers do that. Most of them use the time to do chores or home improvement items that they normally do not have time to do. Others do it to save money and burn accumulated paid vacation time, especially if they're getting closer to retirement. Working for the county, they will only allow you to use a certain amount of vacation time prior to retirement-the rest gets paid off in cash. Under our work rules, unused paid vacation and sick time rolls over at the end of the year.
