NBA All Star Game

Mon Feb 18, 2008 5:41 am

Anybody catch the game? I usually don't watch it but I thought it was pretty entertaining, and the halftime show was probably the best I've ever seen at any sporting event.

I didn't watch the halftime show, but it was a really good game I thought (all-star wise that is). I was honestly more interested in the skills comp last night with Apollo 33 in the dunk contest and Jason Kapono in the 3 point competition. It was nice to see Toronto represented well in the all-star weekend, and Kapono bringing the 3 point trophy back is sick! Why the Heat let him go I'm not sure, but I'm glad to have him up here in the great white north!

Dude NO represented well. I really liked the introductions, it was really cool. The game itself was fun to watch, good entertainment. Great that the players got involved to help the community as well.

Did anyone watch the Slam Dunk Contest? Now that was awesome, SUPERMANNNNNN, haha, oh my goodness Howard can really fly, can't he?

Great job New Orleans!!

No doubt he was the winner hands down! I was hoping Apollo 33 could pull it out, but Howard is unreal. I was actually not so impressed with the first dunk, but Superman was crazy, unreal how high he got there.

checkmark  I agree. I didn't know he could jump that high, and for that long. Great point about Kapono too, wow what a great shooter he is, you guys must be thrilled to have him.

Still some debate about whether that was really a dunk or not. Those were some sweet dunks! But the cupcake one was pretty overrated, it wasn't as good as everyone made it seem.

AI did horrible in the ASG!

I agree. I think that the candle would have gone out either way with the air disturbance of a ball whizzing past it. I think the final should have been Howard and Moon, and not just because I'm a Toronto fan. I think that Moon had the second best dunks, the part where he messed up in my mind was laying down the piece of tape on the floor, and when he didn't take off from that mark it made the dunk seem like a failure. But there's no doubt the best man won.

I certainly am. I wondered at first why the Heat let him go, I was thinking maybe he was a disturbance in the locker room or not a team player, but from everything that I've seen from him up here in Toronto nothing could be further from the truth.

Would have been nice to have Ray Allen in the 3 point competition though, how Dirk made it there and not Ray is amazing. When you look at Dirk's stats for the 3 point this year they are far from impressive.

Though good stats don't necessarily result in a good competition performance, just look at how Nash choked in this year's contest.

Damn right he can, and IMHO, he should have already won the title last year. Alas, had he won last year, we might not have seen his dunks this year, so I can't really complain Big grin .

The halftime show was one of the best I've seen.....the game was pretty much what you expect to see: a track meet with a lot of showboating. I'll homer for the area, of course, but I think New Orleans did a great job of hosting the event. The three days of events went well, the NBA Jam Session at the Convention Center was well attended, and Southwest hosted a plane pull here at the airport pitting teams from the local police and fire departments. And they used Slam Dunk One as the plane.....got to meet Morris Peterson, Rasual Butler, and Hilton Armstrong of the Hornets, who acted as captains for the teams.

Everybody's hitting the road today, and I'm working the airport's EOC, which we've got open until mid-afternoon to help get everybody out OK.

The halftime show was great. I also liked the music playing while the players were getting introduced.

That was amazing. I love how it wasn't even a dunk, but he threw the ball in the hoop anyway.

Of course I did! GG was the only Minnesota representative! Dwight 1000% deserved that award.

Does anyone know why Gerald did the same dunk twice in the finals? That was pretty lame.

I wondered the sane thing. I think he had better dunks last year.

No, I couldn't be bothered with watching it (apart from the fact that I was at work and don't get TNT down here). On the bright side, I saw the second half of the 1996 All-Star-Game (back when people such as Pippen, Jordan, Barkley, Malone, etc. were still around) on NBA TV. Compared with today's NBA, that was a much more exiting and entertaining match than any of the recent matches of the NBA Finals combined.
