What Would You Rather Have? 1 Car From 1 Country

Wed Feb 27, 2008 2:33 am

In light of the :What would you rather have car/SUV" I am interested by what 1 car you would pick from a certain country.

-The rule is that the car company must be based in that country
-You pick your own version, engine, trim of the car.

Just sign me up for a Peugeot 607 (darn it's not imported into the US); a great value for a luxury type of vehicles. Was also very satisfied with my prior 1984 Peugeot 505 Turbo Diesel. The one thing the French can do is built a very comfortable vehicle.

I live in southcentral Alaska, so I need a tuff truk....about as tough as the mountains around me.
So I choose the Ford F-series from your list.
I already have a Explorer and a Mustang, so the F-series is the obvious choice for me.
Also if the F-series can stop a C-123 Provider, that's good enough for me.

Maybe those of us who vote that way want a bigger car without the crap the IS-F comes with.

WRX STI is 100x the more capable car that any shit in the form of a Lexus is....and its going to fall apart as soon as it hits anything but concrete/asphalt. Then it will get spanked like a little schoolgirl from its own backyard in the form of the Nissan GT-R.

pronoun agreement hard to follow but the classless subaru is liable to "literally" fall to pieces after you hit the first speed bump on the way out of the dealership, and 100x more capable than 4.2 0-60 and .93g on the skidpad is a bit suspect~ i guess i kind of predicted such foolishness in my original post, but again do look into the is-f a bit more if possible.

North America: Cadillac CTS - the FE3 package with the 306 hp V6 is fine, but the new CTS-V is bound to be absolutely fantastic.

Japan: I honestly have a hard time choosing a Japanese car I like - I don't care too much for Hondas or Toyotas in general (that includes their upmarket brands), I despise the new GT-R with my every moral fiber, and I'm not a fan of the other Nissan products as well. I don't like clown-car alphabet soup abominations like the Impreza WRX STI LMAOOMGWTFBBQ and the Lancer EVO. I guess that really only leaves one acceptable Japanese car to me - the Subaru Legacy.

Germany: BMW 135i (I've actually chosen this to be my next real car; it can't get here fast enough!)

France: Citroen C6

Sweden: Saab 9-3 Aero Sedan

UK: Lotus Exige

Italy: Alfa Romeo Brera

Australia: Holden Commodore

France has to be the DS although for a medium family the C8 is a reliable and trustworthy barge.

UK has to be the TVR Tuscan

Italy Alfa 159, which frankly is more beautiful than any american tank that "graces" the highways...

I like small cars, as I know they’re one of the cheapest to buy, use, maintain and maneuver.

France:

Citroën C1

Peugeot 107

All quite similar, aren’t they? I like this small and cheap design; a car was, IMO, made for moving a human being or human beings between points A and B.  Wink

Edited to add my Sweden choice being the S60 R. Not sure why it's not on the list? But to follow the rules, I would say the 9-3 Aero is pretty snazzy with that V6 finally.

Add a diesel and I will be happy. Those can pull anything and the off road performance is impressive.

Actually if you compare by price, the Toyota Land Cruiser has quite a towing advantage over the V10 Toureg. Also, some of the less espensive SUV's on the market have quite an advantage too, Suburban and Sequoia for example. I will give you though that the Toureg is an awesome off roader. I remember a few years back Car and Drive did a comparo and it blew the others out of the water.

My car needs replacement. She wants it... kids may be coming sometime in the next few years... it offers more room then a sedan. It can't off road for junk. Fair price with decent looks and powertrain. I'm not too anxious for it, but I still consider it a step above a CR-V or a RAV 4.

Jetsgo,

Tell me, can any other suv pull a 747? I want a SUV with a diesel. The Toureg is the only one in its class to do so besides the Mercedes. I am curious if the Mercedes has true off road capability? But mx is another issue.

Stock? I doubt any can. Even if it can though, that would mean a few others can as well.

The diesel is the only factor that makes it truly "unique."

Embedding on this video is disabled, but here is the link of a Touareg towing a 747. It required 4.5 tons of weights in the Touareg to maintain traction. Being so, I would wager quite a few other SUV's could do the same.
