I have to admit that in the later years everytime I heard his voice or heard him exclaim something on a soundbite, it was pretty grating. Another one of the old school guys passes away, only to be replaced with some ignorant vanilla, vapid, TV slickster. Ah, we’ll miss you Myron.
Yeah, I have to admit that as well, especially in 2003-2004 around the time he retired. I think it was his illness that actually forced him to retire, and it was sad to see him go! If only he would have been able to hang around for one more season and he could have called the Superbowl one last time and to see the Black and Gold Pride bring Lombardi home, one last time.
I loved his voice tho. There was something in his voice that complemented his shrill tone, and that was passion. I think Bill Hilgrove is an excellent commentator, but nothing -- no one even comes close to what Myron Cope was!
