Iditarod 36 Starts Today.

Mon Mar 03, 2008 6:03 am

Hey guys,

Today the greatest sled dog race in the world begins, the 36th running of the Iditarod, the last great race.

A record 96 dog teams departed Willow today on the 1049 mile race to Nome. This years race will use the northern route.

For those of you who want to follow this challenge of man and dog vs. the evironment, where is the offical race website. A new feature this year is that several mushers are equiped with GPS trackers and their position will be displayed on the race website.

I was downtown for the ceremonial start on Saturday with my roommate. We got cold so we went to Snow City Cafe for breakfast...

There is something about the Iditarod that makes me excited and nostalgic at the same time, if that makes any sense. It really is one of the neatest (understatement) sporting events in the world, in my opinion.

I wish I could go to Nome for the finish, but I've got to work.
