6,200 Km Test Drive!

Thu Mar 06, 2008 8:02 am

A man has been arrested after taking a new Honda Accord on an unauthorised 'test drive' from suburban Melbourne to the Northern Territory - 6,200 kms all up! He managed to convince the sales staff that he was interested in purchasing the car before making a rapid exit.......

What an idiot but had he paid for the petrol he might have gotten a few hundred even thousands of kms out of it.

Funniest part of the story is that he had his bags packed for the trip as well!!

In my experience every time I wanted to test drive a car, the salesperson rode with me, usually on a specified route and only for a short time. They also made sure (and usually photocopied) my license and had my old car left there. I would assume they could press criminal charges as well as civilly sue him for $1000's for depreciation, damage to the vehicle and so on. I bet too they will require in the future you must post some asset like your current car or not allow any unsupervised driving.
