I've Broke My Slinky

Thu Mar 06, 2008 10:43 am

I've gone and twisted my slinky in two places and can't figure out how to get it back in to shape without snapping it! Any ideas on how to fix a slinky?

For reference it's made of plastic, red and around 4 inches in height although it can get pretty big when you pull it!

Pictures available upon request.

Thanks.

Ein Schlinky  Wink

My kids have them and get tangled all the time. I've untwisted many over the last few years and would have expected Myt332 to have enough brain power to sort it out on his own but perhaps he would be better off to go to the local toy shop, splurge and buy a new one.  Wink

Why is a Slinkey like a politician?

Because they both bring a smile to your face when you see them pushed down the stairs!

Who walks the stair without a care
It shoots so high in the sky.
Bounce up and down just like a clown.
Everyone knows its Slinky.

The best present yet to give or get
The kids will all want to try.
The hit of the day when you're ready to play
Everyone knows it's Slinky.

It's Slinky, It’s Slinky
for fun it's the best of the toys
It's Slinky, It’s Slinky
the favorite of girls and boys
It's not a near miss it's a near hit!!

Ooooh, once your Slinky's twisted you stand a snowball's chance in hell of ever getting it to entertain your friends and family as it glides effortlessly down the stairs again. Say your goodbyes, bury it in the garden and move on.  cry

Unfortunately, once it is bent, the slinky is done for.

Follow these simple steps:

1. Get out of your home.

2. Head out to where you bought and get a replacement.

Slinkys, especially the plastic ones which debuted a decade or two later, are basically novelty throw-away toys. As kid, growing up in the '70s, I went through a few Slinkys (some the smaller Slinky Jrs.) in my day. I almost went through as many of them as I went through bird kites (that's another story).

Quoting Airfoilsguy (Reply 18):

Actually, the jingle I remember from the '70s went like this (typing the lyrics from memory here):

What walks downstairs?
Alone or in pairs...
and makes a slinkety sound?
A sling, a sling, a marvelous sling...
Everyone knows its Slinky.

It's Slinky, It’s Slinky
it's a fun and a wonderful toy.
It's Slinky, It’s Slinky
It's fun for a girl and a boy

Incidentally, the chorus was re-quoted in the 2005 film, The Lords of Dogtown.

They sell them in Maplins???! Good god, is there nothing they don't sell in there??! I'm just about to buy one of their USB record decks...sod Slinkys!!

Although I'm still not convinced that this whole 'Slinky' malarky is not a euphamism for a 'wee willy winky'!!  Wink
