Computer Guys, Help Please!

Sun Mar 09, 2008 7:15 am

I have a Toshiba A100 Laptop. It has a play/pause button, stop button and a RW FF button on the left hand side of the keyboard. I have iTunes on my computer. For some reason I can not control I tunes with these keys. I know a few people who have similar buttons who can use them. Any help on how to enable them would be appreciated.

My Laptop looks similar to this one (with the keys I am talking about on the left underneath the power button.

I have a Toshiba with the same set of keys on the left side.

Those are to use the integrated DVD player. There is a function that allows you to play DVDs without turning the computer and Windows on.

As far as I know you can't configure them to use with other programs under windows, but I might be wrong...
I'll do my own airline. With Blackjack. And hookers. In fact, forget the airline.

My HP laptop and desktop both have the same features. Start > Control Panel > Keyboard > Buttons. The only part that may be different is the "buttons" tab. You may have something different, however that's how you get into your keyboard settings and change buttons around, if allowed to.

I have both an HP wih music buttons and a MacBook. As far as I know the buttons on Windows laptops cannot be used with iTunes.

I'm not sure but I think I'm correct.

I don't know about the Windows side, but there may be third-party utilities able to re-map those keys as desired. You'd probably have to search for it if Toshiba does not help.

On the Mac I use such a utility for iTunes control via global key combinations:
SizzlingKeys for Mac OS X - Control iTunes from the keyboard using global hot keys

This very useful tool offers the same capability:
Many Tricks · Butler

I would hope that somebody has made a comparable tool for Windows which can access the extra Toshiba buttons.

You are. Since iTunes isn't a program included with the computer and is made by another company.
I bet if apple looked at the non aviation forum they would love some of us trying to get you guys over to mac.

Oh yeah, another add on. Just what we need! More 3rd party programs that add more processes to the process list.

I think those buttons are usually for Windows Media Player and/or the included media center program on the laptop that allows you to not run windows, but play your music, sort of like a huge bulky MP3 player.
