So, What's With The Irish And Watersports?

There are major manufacturers with names like O'Brien and O'Neill dominating the watersport market.
Anybody knows why?

And the founders of the respective companies are probably as Irish as any US president on St Patrick's day, and as American as mom and apple pie for the other 364 days.

Is Lockheed (originally Loughead) also Irish?
Boeing (originally, possibly, Bowen, amongst others) Welsh?

Being from Ireland I'm surprised how popular water sports are here. Apparently the surf is great along the West coast. We even have our own big surf festival. I thought our rubbish weather would put people off it but apparently not.
