The first time I had sexual intercourse, I felt a burst of happiness coming, and then white stuff gushed out! I was so scared that I screamed like a little girl...in front of a little girl! I thought it was a venereal disease for certain! I thought I was a'goners!

Signed,

P.S. - I practiced safe sex, of course, with that condom that has been in my wallet for years!

I don't have a lot of sex, and I won't claim that I do. However, I knew that I needed to get tested. I went through a period in college where I was rather premiscuous, usually safe sex, but with a lot of people. It took me 2 years to gather up the courage to get tested. It took 3 days for my results to come back and the time between the test and the results was agony. It came back negative, and I coouldnt believe that I had spent that much time worrying and that much energy fearing the test itself.

Now, having had it done once, I would do it again if need be, but alas, there's no need at this point, LOL. But it's always scary.

I don't know what you are getting tested for, but as for HIV/AIDS, while a lot of advertisements try and scare you into testing, it's not a really easy disease to get. There are certain factors which can increase your risk, however, if you look at the statistics, (and I don't know where), but I remember seeing that the chances were VERY slim, even if you have had unprotected sex. If you are gay, as a bottom you would be more at risk, than say a top. Women are at increased risk over men as well. (Not going to explain why, but I'm sure you get the logistics of it).

It's "up to" but knowing the UK NHS I expect it to be 10. I guess because it's a free service they have a high level of demand. When I got my Class 1 medical from CASA I found out within 18 hours. Oh well. Can't argue with free, friendly help like yesterday's was. I went in shaking and they were good at calming me down.

Well, it depends on the nature of how you have sex. For a straight man or a gay man who is the penetrating partner all the time, this is very true. For straight women and receptive gay men, the chances are much higher.

What may be the largest epidemic in the US these days is Hep C. Like HIV it is transmitted via blood to blood contact.

Treatment for Genotype 1 involves 48 weeks of shots and drugs with a very low success rate, Genotype 2 is 24 weeks of combo therapy with a higher success rate.

Hep C can lead to cirrhosis, liver cancer and death. Genotype 1 is the most commen in the US, type 2 is most commen in Europe. I believe there are something like 12 different genotypes.

Roughly 40% of HIV+ people are co-infected with HV-C, most from IV drug use, but it is also an STD.

Hep C has been a major problem, and that will grow as baby boomers have their infections come to the surface in greater numbers.

While Hep-C can be transmitted sexually, such transmission is rather difficult. The vast majority of cases are IV drug or tattoo needle spread.

No, I didn't mean it like I he won't get it if he has casual sex, and I didn't mean to sound relaxed about getting tested, because like you said, everyone should know their status.

However, the reason I said HIV is rather hard to acquire was to calm him a little until his test results come back. And it's rather true, a lot of advertising uses scare tactics to get people to test, and I'm glad that it is working, however, like I said before, the disease is rather hard to acquire. Its not something that can live outside the human body for more than (20 seconds I believe?!), thus making exposure very difficult to do.

I believe and follow the path of using protection and I recommend everyone else do the same until you are in a stable and monogomous relationship.

Perhaps to make you extra cautious. It is pretty much limited to blood to blood and is easiest to get from needles. Sexual transmission, as said before, is possible but rare.

Can you get a sexually transmitted disease from having intercourse with animals? Maybe a sheep, or a donkey, or a camel?

Well as for HIV/AIDS they have determined for a while now that it's not a death sentence contrary to popular belief. I am well educated on it because someone in my family has it. They are approaching 30 yr survivors now and with the advent of modern medicine and technology they can treat it like a chronic condition similar to diabetes if you will providing you take care of yourself, and are not asymptomatic to begin with etc... Enough of that though I don't have time to explain right now.

Having said that to the thread starter learn your lessons now and believe me there are a few diseases besides HIV you don't want to catch Like mentioned Hep C can be nasty and kill you and there are new strains I have heard of not sure what they are right of the top of my head. Anyways good luck.

You might need to keep a wary eye out for dourine, a sexually transmitted form of sleeping sickness in horses - billed in my Zoo I classes as snoring while you are boring.

Interesting, no Wiki entry, but gov.uk is most helpful UH!!

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/notifiable/dourine/index.htm

"Dourine is enzootic in Africa, Asia, South eastern Europe, South America and in a small area of the Southern United States of America. The disease has never occurred in this country."

Oh oh, Southern USA. Does not say ME, but it is between Africa and Asia last time I looked!

No STD scares for me. My friend Jim has a funny one about getting a chlamydia test. Apparently when he took a piss after the test it burned so bad that he fell to the floor in the fetal position and pissed all over himself.

Speaking of STD's, N1120A, did your warts clear up from that one night stand you had with the skanky Southwest Flight Attendant? Remember, you should always check the quality of the turf before you step out onto the field.

It is suprising how many people have taken for granted safe sex methods beat in to our heads growing up, I know some STD's are on the rise again suprisingly. Luckily I'm married and faithful.

Mike,

This may be true, but it is no excuse for reckless behaviour! This rise in HIV conversions is appalling. People say, "well it is manageable" true, but at what costs?

As of today, we don't know the long term effects of the triple cocktail on people who have been on these meds for a long time.

Also, the cost of these meds is astronomical over the course of a lifetime. Add to that, the constant monitoring of viral loads, CD4 counts, etc, and doctor visits and anyone with out insurance will be bankrupt very fast.

Please, don't give people the impression that HIV is something trivial, it is not!

Having my first experience at 14, I didn't think much of it until a month ago after it turned out the guy I fooled with last was a bit of a slut.
Although I've never had sex, I've been at other stuff with several guys and when my last man turned out to be a complete slut, I thought it best I get the full test;

Totally not the point I was trying to point out that it is not a death seantence there is some stigma that it is untrue about the disease that is still in the 80's-90's mindframe and some people havent changed views. If you read it all. I don't think I advocated getting a disease. Besides I don't want to get in to a topic about why it is or isn't. Just pointing out some facts. Sure we could talk about the ramifications of HIV and other stuff but thats better on another topic.

Having said that to the thread starter learn your lessons now and believe me there are a few diseases besides HIV you don't want to catch Like mentioned Hep C can be nasty and kill you and there are new strains I have heard of not sure what they are right of the top of my head. Anyways good luck.

It is suprising how many people have taken for granted safe sex methods beat in to our heads growing up, I know some STD's are on the rise again suprisingly. Luckily I'm married and faithful.

I did follow up with this. Point is no one wants a STD no matter what it is.

Well I got tested 2 times; both times I slept well. I had my physical and I requested it and my next time was a blood test for donation. I asked for that as well. both came back negative. I was and am happy.
