What Is The Best Place To Eat In Seattle?

Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:20 am

I will be traveling to Seattle in September and I was wondering if anyone might be familiar with the Seattle area and could suggest a good eating place? When I say eating place Im speaking of a really good mom and pop place where all the locals eat, burgers and fries place, perhaps a pizza/itilian location, when I travel I look for unique and different experience and I always like to look for the small establishments.
So your thoughts and suggestions would be great.
Many thanks.

JMH-Pensacola, Florida

P.S. On the flip side if anyone visits Pensacola, Florida, be sure and check out Jerrys Drive Inn, its no longer a drive Inn, in the old days it was, place has been around sense 1938.
Good burger/fries and malt place. I am a regular.

I've heard great things about Ivars its a well known seattle seafood establishment.

http://www.ivars.net/

One of my favorites although there are other locations in the country is The Old Spaghetti Factory in Seattle.

Hamburger places I always loved Dicks Drive in the burgers are cheap and you can buy a bag of burgers/cheesburgers if you like.

I can vouch for Ivars. Not sure if it's the best place in Seattle, but it was pretty damn good!

Ivar's is pretty solid. I've always had great experiences at Anthony's if you're looking for an upscale seafood place as well..

Yup, Dicks is indeed a very popular eatery, especially for locals. Yummy stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions, will definitly check out Dicks for sure and will also look into Ivars and Anthony's. Now for Ivars the website shows three differents types of establishments,
"Acres of Clams" , "Salmon House" and "Mukilteo Landing" . Which who is the better or are they all great.

Thanks,

JMH

I personally don't know which is better but the Acres of Clams is in the downtown area Pier 54 and I've heard it is the more popular one because of location but maybe someone else knows which one is better I guess it all depends on if your willing to drive to whatever location or stay in the Seattle city limits. Salmon house is a little more north away from downtown Seattle close to the University of Washington area, and Mukilteo Landing is up by Everett a 20-30 min drive north of Seattle.

Don't get stuck on Ivars...there is lots of good seafood down on the waterfront.

Dicks, I have heard is good. I have never eaten there. I would, however, reccomend their Seattle Center store but not their Capitol Hill store; clenliness issues. There are three pizza places I would reccomend: Zekes near Seattle Center, Pagliaccis, and Pegasis Pizza. I, personally, would not reccomend Olympic Pizza at the top of Queen Anne because they use too much cinnamon or nutmeg or something in their sauce.

Ivars has very good clam chowder. When I lived there and my mom would visit, she would get us to buy the chowder at Acres of Clams then take the ferry to Bainbridge.

about some famous chili place in Seattle.

There is a great chili place at Pike Street Market. From the news stand, go past the nut roasting booth and mini doughnut booth and hang a left past the Italian store just before the fish throwing. Go downstairs and it is there in the atrium. When you are finished with the chili, go back upstairs for those delicious mini doughnuts made before your eyes!

Went to Seattle about 10 years ago.
I starved.
We couldn't find any real food. It was all green exotic tiny pretentious sounding crap. We eventually found a pizza place and got some nourishment, but for a day and a half I woulda spent $20 for a bologna sandwich or PB&J. I swear, it was like those commercials where a couple sits at an expensive restaurant and are served 3 peas and a cabbage leaf drenched in llama milk. Just awful. I just don't consider a bowl of some kind of sprouts "food".
Granted, maybe Seattle was a little more full of itself in the 90s, but I've never wanted to go back and find out.

I lived there from 1999 to 2001 and I found all kinds of food. There is a great food court in the banking district, several eateries in U-District, and, of course, Beths on Aurora Ave North. I wonder where you were?

The waterfront is all seafood and steaks. It's also pricey, but seafood is not considered "green."

There's also an arcade downtown with junk food crap all over. I think you were just lazy.

World Class Chili. It is in the Economy Atrium at Pike Place Market. I know the owner, and he is dedicated as hell to provide good grub. Also, Lowells is a wonderful eat at the market. They have some great views of the sound. Also in the Economy building is a crepe eatery. Oh man, they make the best crepes in the world. Seriously, go check them out. You can't go wrong there, and everything is fresh as can be. All the seafood is from the market, and the veggies are from the market too.

The Crab Pot down on the Pier is wonderful. One of my favorite seafood eats! Pike Place is a neat place to visit, just stay away after dark.

Besides Chicago & San Francisco, Seattle is one of my favorite places for food choices.

Here's what I loved when I was a "local."

Head up to the Green Lake area and eat at Duke's - the best crab chowder ever!

http://www.dukeschowderhouse.com/greenlake.php

The best smoked pork BBQ sandwich in Seattle:

http://www.pigironbbq.net/

On the expensive side but worth the trip. Try the Salt & Pepper Dungeness Crap at:

http://www.flyingfishseattle.com/

Pike Place is always reliable but somewhat touristy. If you do go, and you like beef jerky & you like salmon, try to find some Salmon Jerky - hmmmmmmmmm.

I usually steer clear of ordering the Crap when I go to a restaurant, personally.  Smile
