This happened four days ago, and I did not see it posted.
A tanker broadsided a barge carrying 419,000 gallons of oil under the Crescent City bridge spanning the river in New Orleans around 1:00am on the 23rd. The barge broke in two and got stuck on the piling of the bridge.
So far only a small portion of the spill has been cleaned up and a full opening of the river is not expected to take place for days.
The Coast Guard is now allowing some ships to come up the river but there are over a hundred ships stacked up at the mouth of the river awaiting entry.
A Carnival cruise ship had to divert to Mobile, as well.
