"Opera Mini" Web Browser - Urgent Help Needed!

Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:59 am

U R G E N T

I have to buy a new mobile phone and I am hesitating between a sony walkman and an HTC touch (diamond or other) for one reason: I want to have access to the "full" internet and not only to simplified pages for mobiles.

I was told that the only system to get fully connected was to have a "smartphone" with windows mobile and thus internet explorer.

Later I was also told that I can fully access the internet without internet explorer if I download the OPERA MINI web browser on a regular (non-smart) mobile. I did so on my old phone and, indeed, I can open full internet pages as they appear on my usual computer. BUT: when I try to make an "advanced search" on eBay [that's the main reason why I want the internet connexion....], I cannot use the option "Items located in" and select "any country"...... This is very annoying, does anyone know why it doesn't work and what could be done to overcome this??

Thanks for any help.

So, what happens when you select it?

I wonder if the problem is that Opera Mini parses pages through another server before sending them on to your own browser.

Have you looked on the Opera Mini Help section?

It gives more results since it looks for items located anywhere in the world.

I've tried the help section but I haven't found an answer. I guess the problem is rather with the eBay site. Thanks a lot.

I know that, what happens when *you* try it.

Look, you are asking for technical support here, so one of the things we need is precise details on what is *actually* happening - IE the abnormal outcome.

Only then can we suggest whether its an Ebay issue, an Opera issue or a mobile browsing issue.

Basically you have done the equivalent of walking into a doctors surgery and saying 'it hurts when I do something'. No useful information at all.

Try the full opera browser on your pda, you can get a 30 day trial for free, and see if that fixes it

I thought my words were clear enough...but it seems they're not.

"I cannot use the option" means that this option is not available, not "activated" or I don't know how to say it..... Although the option "Items located in" does appear on the screen, it is not possible to select it, impossible to click on it.

I hope it helps........

Ok, thanks for all the answers. In the meantime I have bought a Nokia E51 which has an HTML/XHTML browser and with this I can access the normal eBay page and select all the options...  Smile

Btw...this E51 is really a G R E A T phone: very efficient and still compact.
