He is in a serious condition so fingers crossed that he is able to recover. One of my favourite actors.

EDIT... Fingers crossed for the unnamed female with him in the car during the accident. Her condition is unknown. Accident happened 11.30PM last night.

I hope he wasn't on his way to jump off the Tallahatchie bridge!

Finally got to watch the Bucket List the other night on dvd. What a great movie, it is now in my top ten list. Then saw him again in the Dark Night over the weekend.

Here's hoping he makes a full and complete recovery.

Im afraid that doesnt really mean too much. My next door neighbour was involved in a seriously bad crash, when the ambulance arrived he was concious and talking to them. His heart later gave out 3 times and he had to be revived. He was very lucky to pull through.

UPDATE: Freeman's rep confirms the actor broke his shoulder and arm, but expects him to make a "good" recovery.

It appears as though all of the big dark knight characters have had some form of bad event happen to them. Ledger, then Bale, now Freeman.

For all the success Morgan Freeman has enjoyed throughout his career, he still calls rural Mississippi home.

On this page there's some 60 minute episodes of celebrities and their homes, including Morgan Freeman and his wife at home on their Mississippi farm.

What in the hell is someone as rich and talented as Morgan Freeman doing driving an 11 year old Nissan Maxima that belongs to a women (which the press has no information about, besides her name - and the hospital won't released her current medical condition - and who's definitely not Freeman's wife) in the middle of the night? The car was going fast enough that it became airborne, flipped over several times, and ended up in a ditch. The rescue team needed to use the "jaws of life" to get 71 year old Freeman and the woman out of the car.

The local police have immediately ruled out DUI of alcohol or drugs. That was quick...

That's not actually that hard to do if they hit dip or drainage ditch bump. If the ditch was substantial then going airborne would almost be unavoidable depending on the angle at which they entered. The article states he was lucid and laughing with the rescue squad so even though the car flipped he seems to have come through relatively unscathed. The first reports had him in critical condition so the condition of the car might also be a little overemphasised.

Not necessarily. As you know, a conscious patient doesn't mean a well patient. Many times it could even be a lucid interval of an Epidural Hematoma, or just an overload of epinephrine from the stress of the crash.

Whenever the police (in this case the Mississippi Highway Patrol) has to go out of state for evidence, (Blood) it makes the evidence difficult to get entered into court. The Oregon State Police would never come to our hospital in Crescent City, CA, to get a blood sample just for that it was a chain of custody problems, different rules in different states, etc, it was basically to much problems. Some of serious trauma patients were taken to a hospital in Oregon at being 115 miles away, we too wouldn't get the test done. Easier to say DUI ruled out or unknown.

checkmark  Many times I encountered drivers at the scene that were lucid, but when asked what happen they didn't have a clue, until several hours later.

Hope he will be ok. By the way, he holds a private GA license. He could have fallen asleep, was trying to avoid an animal, who knows what happened and it could happened to anyone.

Glad to hear he's doing better.

What cracks me up is that he was driving a 1997 Maxima...could you imagine driving up next to an 11 year old Nissan and seeing Morgan Freeman driving it?

It says they have been separated since December, so obviously this was not the cause.
