JFK Airport Hotels

Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:47 pm

Hi
Flying from JFK on a 5:40am flight to MIA
Any good and cheap hotels around JFK? Would it be easier to stay in NYC and easier to head out in the early hours in the morning to JFK?

With a 5:40am flight I'd stay near JFK.

I've stayed at a few of the JFK hotels. I'd avoid the Holiday Inn and definitely avoid the Ramada. The Holiday Inn Express is decent and not too expensive.

I like the Courtyard and Crowne Plaza most but depends on the rates the night you're staying.

We not that bothered about quality of hotel cause we are likely to vacate hotel at 3am to head to airport, and probably will get to hotel at 8-9pm as will be spending the day in new york itself. so more like a nap before hitting the A300

I just stayed at the Ramada Plaza Hotel this past Friday night. It's literally right under the approach to 13R. The planes coming in are no more than 200-300 feet over the roof. However, I would recommended something else. The room was fair, but check-in was a disaster. We came off an 11 hour flight from Turkey and four of us were later going to a Yankee Game. We arrived at the hotel around 3:00 PM. Of course, my room isn't ready and it takes them till almost 4:15 to get it ready and the four of us who are going are meeting back up at 4:30. I was hoping to shower and freshen up after the 11 hour flight before going to the Yankee game but didnt get to.

The other annoying thing is they have a shuttle will take you to the AirTrain station. The station is only five minutes away at most but only runs every half hour, and if there's too many people on the shuttle and you cant get on, you just have to wait till the next 30 minute shuttle comes along or get a cab.

Basically, customer service and this hotel didn't match.

Last time I was there I saw rodents crawling around my room. I wouldn't do the Ramada.

Basically anything else with a decent rate should be good if all you're doing a nap. Oh yeah; don't do the JFK Inn under ANY circumstnace. The reviews speak for themselves.

A word to the wise: Since 9/11, there is no place to leave your luggage in New York City. Go to the hotel and check your bags. If I still lived there, I'd offer to take your bags for the day, but I don't.

And NYC is hotter'n blazes this time of year. Bring summer clothes.

Crowne Plaza at JFK worked for me... very comfortable and convenient.

I like the Courtyard

Are there any views from there? I know it's side on to the airport but have booked a room there next month for 2 nights.

Soups, I was in a similar situation as yourself and booked to stay at the Doubletree also and for similar reasons. When you get to JFK you'll need to make your way round to the shuttle pick up stop, then the minibus comes to get you. I'd suggest calling the hotel just as you are getting on the AirTrain. In the mornings they'll be generous enough to take you back to the terminal itself... Wink

They do have free wi-fi which isn't always the case at Doubletrees  thumbsup  and you'll need to book yourself on the morning shuttle.

The room was pretty small and bathroom just ok, but at least the bed was comfortable  thumbsup

For an airport like JFK you'd think they'd have at least a half decent hotel, I think the best hotel at the airport is a Hilton Garden Inn! I'm sure there is money to be made in something better.

Actually we renting a car from manhattan and going to milford, CT, our plan is to drive back to JFK, check in at hotel then go into manhattan drop the car and go sighseeing then back to JFK at night.
Thanks for the info.
I am a diamond member so hopefully i'll get a big room

Some of the upper rooms at the Courtyard you can see I believe it's 13R.. I asked for a room with a view and they hooked me right up. It's too bad rates are so high; it's a great $120 a night hotel.. not $250.
