We not that bothered about quality of hotel cause we are likely to vacate hotel at 3am to head to airport, and probably will get to hotel at 8-9pm as will be spending the day in new york itself. so more like a nap before hitting the A300

Soups, I was in a similar situation as yourself and booked to stay at the Doubletree also and for similar reasons. When you get to JFK you'll need to make your way round to the shuttle pick up stop, then the minibus comes to get you. I'd suggest calling the hotel just as you are getting on the AirTrain. In the mornings they'll be generous enough to take you back to the terminal itself...
They do have free wi-fi which isn't always the case at Doubletrees and you'll need to book yourself on the morning shuttle.
The room was pretty small and bathroom just ok, but at least the bed was comfortable
For an airport like JFK you'd think they'd have at least a half decent hotel, I think the best hotel at the airport is a Hilton Garden Inn! I'm sure there is money to be made in something better.
