MLB Baseball And The *

I just had the chance again to watch Billy Crystal's movie 61* following the home run race of Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris. If you're a baseball fan and have not seen it.. go get a copy. Great movie. Anyway..Since Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's single season home run record back in 1961 only three other players have passed the mark set by Maris. Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa and Barry Bonds. All three are now at the center of the current Mitchell Report on the use of PED. So... should these records get an astrict next to their date in baseball history...? All Maris did was play in a few more games to break the Babe's record.. these guys... if proven... cheated..!! It took 30 year for the MLB to remove the astrict next to Maris's record and acknowlage it as the only single season home run record.

If proven. I have a sinking feeling that stuff will somehow never be proven. MLB hopes it'll all quietly drift away over time.

Major League Baseball has always been lax in policing their players. And for good reason (in their eyes) - it's simply bad for business. Hell, even Norm Cash admitted to using a corked bat the year he won the batting title in, ironically 1961, the same year Maris surpassed Ruth's HR record. MLB was a joke long before the likes of Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, and Sammy Sosa.
