So, 11 years ago now, I was a Stroke rower on an 8 Crew, on Town Lake (now called Lady Bird Lake) in Austin. I rocked the slot, however, wound up suffering an inner ear problem that grounded me, which was (right at about the time it was cleared up) by a much more major problem, which in effect led to the end of my rowing.
For the past 11 years, I thought off and on again and again about going back into it. I was always slightly PTSD about it, because the very last time I'd been on the water, I suffered a horrific vertigo spell, thankfully not too far from the dock. And even more thankfully, while with my crew. If I were on a single, well, I try not to think about it.
After being told, that it was something I did so well, and something I speak of so brightly, I decided, what the hell! I'm getting back in it. I am going to work with my doctor to formulate a plan, mostly of steps to take. (I am first hitting my gym to get a little flab removed.)
I have the ultimate goal, to be an 8 Stroke again, all those other boats? I hope they enjoy riding my wake.
Wish me luck, y'all!
