Ottawa launches search for Franklin's ships
Ottawa-backed hunt comes as High Arctic melting increases danger of others finding historical prize

OTTAWA-- More than 160 years after Sir John Franklin's doomed expedition vanished in the ice of the fabled Northwest Passage, the federal government is backing a search for the Holy Grail of the High Arctic.
Environment Minister John Baird announced yesterday a $75,000 contribution from Ottawa for the effort to find Franklin's ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, last seen in the late-1840s.

In the grand scheme of things, I am not against $75,000 being spent to search for a lost piece of Canadian and world history...especially if they are worried about "grave robbers." Hopefully they are successful.
