ATL Meet - December 13, 2008 ** Revised **

Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:51 am

First let me say I was surprised to see how many folks are interested! The response was very positive!

I have developed a tentative schedule of events. At this point it is subject to change. Needless to say I have a lot of planning to do and I'm glad I started this process this far out ahead of time. If everything works out it will be a great time for sure for all involved!

Also note that if lunch is indeed catered as mentioned below and if Delta-provided transportation is arranged to/from tour locations, a small fee may be asked of attendees (no more than $5 USD I would estimate). Please let me know your thoughts on this.

--

Tentative Schedule of Events
Saturday, December 13, 2008

08:00 AM – Pre-Tour Gathering (location TBD)
08:30 AM – Transportation to Delta World Headquarters
08:45 AM – Event Registration (sign-in with corporate security, visitors receive appropriate identification for the duration of the event)
09:00 AM – Delta Air Lines Simulator Support tour
11:00 AM – Operations Control Center (OCC) tour (assuming 50 attendees, this will have to be conducted in two groups of 25)
12:00 PM – Lunch, possibly catered
1:00 PM – Delta Heritage Museum tour (scheduling special off-hour access to The Spirit of Delta as they are not normally open on weekends)
2:00 PM – Delta Air Lines Technical Operations Center tour
4:00 PM – Tour Wrap-up (group photograph, attendees return visitor badges, transportation back to morning meeting place)
5:00 PM – Dinner, for all interested (location TBD)

I'm off on the 12th - 15th December. I'll check with the accountant and see if I can afford a wee trip abroad. I quite fancy seeing a bit more of ATL than the departure lounge!!

Might have to wait until I have been at VS 6 months, which is November, so I can get staff travel!!

I would love to come. I may have a bowling tournament that weekend. Unfortunately I won't know the dates on that until the time gets closer. If I end up bowling on another date, I'll get set for this as soon as possible.

Tentative Schedule of Events

This tentative itinerary sure looks impressing !

I will keep an eye on this thread and see in the coming weeks if a short trip to the U.S. is manageable (at present I am running out of days off, but there is the negative chance that I have to shelve another family vacation in October in favour to an FDA inspection carried out at my employer).

For the moment I will stay off the maybe-list.

Are people staying in downtown ATL or at an airport hotel?

Ive got the option of both and if I do come along I'll probably arrive on the Friday and depart on Sunday. I may even have a bit of a tour of the East coast on some aircraft Ive never flown on and then head back to the UK from NYC.

Funny, I made that suggestion in the first thread on this meet:

Quote:
Another thought is perhaps a trip down to FFC to check out the war birds of the Dixie Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. Or perhaps a road trip down to the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins.

I could definitely be up for it, as I haven't been down there since the summer of 1992. I keep saying that I'm going to head down there one Saturday but never do.

FlyDeltaJets87 and myself have conspired the after hours event (based on discussions in the youtube video thread)

But the afterhours event will be an outdoor pool cannonball contest in reponse to Skygirls pool jumping video. Alcohol indluced pool jumping will be welcome. Nose-holding will NOT be permitted, and style points will also be awarded for fashion (FlyDeltaJets87 plans on jeans or BDU's to match Skygirl's video)

I've offered to be the judge  Smile

Oh there's an equation that proves that women are evil.

This sounds tempting. I'll look closer to the date if I can make it schedule and money wise. Is there a deadline for the trips or could one theoretically just show up?

There will be a maximum number of folks who can attended, more than likely 50 will be the cut off.
Change is: one airline, six continents!

I would like to attend but it is too early for me to tell yet. I am starting a new job sometime around October 1st. I will do some checking and get back with you.

is it still safe for me to come? {Wink}

Yeah, but I'd be careful though. She once made me laugh backwards.  innocent

Based on past experiences, I would expect that a bulk of the maybe list and a few on the attending list will not make the Meet. Having been involved with planning for the various LAS Meets (including the flop of a Meet this year [I had to drop out due to a possible work issue that worked itself out and I still could have gone but I had already changed may bookings to a later date.]), I've seen a combined list of 50+ folks get whittled down to barely a dozen.

Technically it's a proof, not an equation.

Here's another:

Power = Work/Time

Knowledge is Power, therefore:

Knowledge = Work/Time

Time is Money, therefore:

Knowledge = Work/Money

As Knowledge approaches 0, Money approaches an infinite value. Therefore:

The less you know, the more money you make.
