Could Van Hool TD 925 Become A Success In The US?

The Van Hool TD 925 is the second attempt to bring a Double Deck Highway coach to the US, after The Neoplan AN122 Skyliner. Unlike the Skyliner, which was mostly was use as commuter coach for suburb to cities downtown area, the TD 925 is being use as a highway coach with Megabus. Also there is a tour company that using them for trips form Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and one useing them for casino trip form Miami. The TD 925 is just 13 ft 2 inches high not much taller than a Prevost H series. So do you see the TD 925 becoming a success it the US?

It depends on what you consider "success"

If you define success as selling a few here and there to tour companies, then yes they can be a success.

If you define "success" as seeing them used daily by lots of commuters, then no I don't think they will be a "success".

I've had the pleasure of riding one with Megabus from St. Louis to Chicago, and I must say I was thoroughly impressed, clean, quiet, and pretty darn smooth. All for $10. I certainly hope to see more in the future, not bad looking either....

If communities in North America really do start to finally take transit seriously, these types of buses can be a very popular choice, especially in those many areas where rail service just isn't possible. Kelowna, BC already has a fleet of double deckers used for their daily transit services including some regional runs and they are already considered too small.

Id second that. would love to test drive that. I think VanHool has a good chance for the charter / tour bus market here in the US and most big cities.

I'm out of the touring business now but I've noticed in Vancouver that a couple of companies have started to move from MCI and Prevost to vanHool single deckers.

One of the touring companies has at least one of these double-deckers for tours to Victoria (more pax per bus for the ferry ride).

They look pretty snappy to me so yes, although they won't sell in massive numbers, I think they'll do just fine!

Ah, busses... next to guns and chocolates one of our more popular export products  Smile

The whole of Belgium seems to drive VanHool busses, tour operators and public transport. They're generally quite comfy... though I wish more of them had a/c  Smile
I love my Airport Job! :)

My place of worship has MCI and Van Hool coaches. I was talking to the driver of our T2145, and he told me that there MCI buses are sent to the shop alot, but there Van Hool has not had to go to the shop yet.

Van Hool build some very well built buses. They could be close to being called a tank.

It good to hear that they are smooth. I took an AVTA Neoplan Skyliner from Flower ST in down LA to Lancaster in 1998, ( to see how it felt to rid e on a Double deck coach) and I was on the upper deck, well let's just say the ride was pretty bumpy, but I still enjoyed riding on a double deck coach.
