And Californians Wonder Why We Think Their Strange

Tue Aug 19, 2008 2:34 am

In this case she found a novel way to solve a couple of problems and who steps in to throw a monkey wrench into the works?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. I know that there used to be a company in Nashville that had a pretty good seasonal business coming around in the late fall and spray painting your lawn green if you wanted it.

We had something similar to a neighbor who owned a big company. The home owners association prevented the city from fining him and passed a new bill allowing him and future owners to have this fake grass.

I'll side with the city on this one. A plastic lawn is tacky...and would devalue the surrounding property.
Good for Garden Grove (aka Garbage Grove).

Yeah Garden Grove is such a sore sight as it is.

And...what does this have to do with California as a state? I guarantee that stuff like this happens in plenty of other states too.

Californians think YOU are strange because you can't differentiate between 'they're' and 'their'.  Wink

Well it ain't a California thing, strange states from across the nation spread their strangeness to Garden Grove.

Two years ago in Nevada:
http://www.reviewjournal.com/lvrj_ho.../Apr-10-Mon-2006/news/6769139.html
"... the five-member board liked the look of Fitting's lawn and supported his desire to keep it, Joseph said. Unfortunately, the neighborhood's codes, covenants and restrictions simply did not allow them to rule in his favor."

Four years ago in Nevada:
http://www.ccfj.net/HOANVfaketurf.html
"... received a letter from the Summerlin North Community Association that stated the synthetic lawn was "an unapproved condition" and must be removed immediately."

Seven years ago in South Carolina:

And I don't see a date but Colorado too:
http://www.pro-greens.com/grassrootsmove.html
"... the city of Thornton banned synthetic grass, and mandated the removal of residential synthetic lawns. "

But what caught my eye was the combination of these three things:

residents who let their lawns go brown can be fined by the city.
Even though southern california is more of a desert climate.

it was a waste to use hundreds of gallons of water to keep the grass thriving.
She has a point here. If you have to keep watering it because there is not enough natural rainfall to keep it green, you're wasting resources.

And that regulation puts the city at odds with the Orange County Municipal Water District, which offers rebates to those who install faux grass.
So I guess she can use her rebate to pay the fine.

Couldn' fit it all in! LOL

Sounds like normal Orange County politics to me  duck

She can't (emphasis mine):

Quote:
"We want people to change their behavior and use more water-efficient products for landscaping," water district spokeswoman Darcy Burke said of the rebates. Because of the ban, Orban was denied her $300 rebate.

Two big things I missed besides not capitalizing California. I'm falling apart in this thread! lol

I wish there was a picture of it. Some of the fake grass they have these days is awful hard to tell from the real stuff.
