Does one have to die to get a "Darwin Award"?

This guy should definately get an Honorable Mention!

Holy....  Wow!

I've done quite a bit of kite surfing and powerkiting (never in near-hurricane conditions though  Silly) - and the sad thing about this is that the kite/chute has BRAKES - not only does it make sure you slow down, it'll literally deflate and land the kite/chute so it can't fly away with you no matter how strong the winds are, and they're easy to engage/disengage...

That, and the first lesson is always; "when in doubt, get the h*ll out" - meaning once you even think you're in trouble, you let go of the damned thing... it'll brake and land eventually anyway when there ain't someone at the other end...

Apparently the guy didn't have time to release the kite (which was fixed to some sort of belt).

I can see why people would do it - for the adrenalin rush. But he found out the hard way that mother nature can be a harsh mistress.

I wonder if he now has a "crazed look" permanently etched on his face? Man, I am sure that was an EYE POPPING experience for him.

I just wish we could have gotten a close up of the look on his face after he lifted off a second time and was flying over the autos right before he hit the wall. He was really movin'. I imagine he really got an adrenalin rush right before hitting that wall! But wasn't that what he was looking for anyway?

Hey, this stunt ranks right up there with those guys who flew off of the Jumbolair runway!

And he plans to do it again! Idiot!
He wasn't aware of the nasty weather? Doesn't he ever watch TV, listen to a radio or read a newspaper?

He was on GMA yesterday morning and does not remember anything after face planting in the sand. There is a quick release button located on the harness that would immediately free you from the kite but according to him it all happened so fast he did not have a chance to react and once he was knocked out when he first hit the sand, the rest was up to mother nature. Probably lucky he was out cold as he might have done even more damage trying to brace for the second impact.
Warm winds blowing, heating blue skies, and a road that goes forever. I'm going to Texas!
