Pope Can't Fly With 'Holy' Water

Thu Aug 28, 2008 5:27 pm

I am not sure if this belongs here or in the Civil Aviation forum.

Vatican advises Pope against flying with 'holy' water

The Vatican has advised those accompanying Pope Benedict XVI to Lourdes next month not to put 'holy' water in their hand luggage or it may be confiscated.

That would be funny. Him going through security. "Sir what is this? Oh its just my Holy Water. You do know its illegal to bring any liquids into the terminal." Don't know about you but I would pay big bucks to see that.

For those who are Catholics maybe you can help me understand Holy Water. From what I have been told, the Pope can declare any water Holy Water right? Could he just not take it with him and get another bottle and declare it Holy Water?

Just thinking here and wondering.

Thanks

Wouldn't the pope and his entourage be going through a different security checkpoint
than ordinary airport passengers? I can't see him being put through normal airport
security operations, just as other heads of states don't.

He can declare any water Holy water. But he may also travel with chrism. Which is and oily type of liquid. That may be what they are talking about. It is often mixed up. But I also am not sure if he has a special kind of water.

Just pick up some bottles of Dasani after security and bless them. Sounds like a plan, Stan.

Maybe all the money they had earmarked for that purchase when to pay the lawsuits for the priest abuse.

Very few incidents you say, then why is it often referred to as WIDE SPREAD ABUSE!

No but hiding it, not talking about it and moving priest around all in the name of protecting the catholic church, now that is a big Pandora's box I would say.

Yeah right. I'm entering my 3rd year of Confirmation class. I guess I'm a pretty good student. The priest asked me to become one. I told him I would rather be a pilot Big grin.
