Why So Few Women Playing Rock Instruments?

Fri Sep 05, 2008 12:46 pm

Look at Rock/Metal bands? A lot of them have female vocalists, people at concert is made of at least 50% of females, so a lot of women like that type of music.
But a few of them play instruments. How many female heve you seen playing drums or guitars, basses?
It's really, really rare.
Do you have any idea about the reason?

Quoting F.pier (Thread starter):
drums

I think a chick playing drums is SO sexy! Not a rock or metal band but The Corrs have a female drummer:

Back in the old days there was Suzi Quatro and Heart. Karen Carpenter was also a mean drummer in her day. Then there is Candy Dulfer and her sax

As for the reasons, no idea but they should get with the program!
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

I like eating, but that doesn't mean I like cooking. There's a reason Lexus drivers are disproportionately female and why more beer is consumed by men. Different things appeal to different genders.

If you like women in rock, you might want to listen to Octavia Sperati. Great music, and most of the band members are very good looking women  yes ;

There was also the Go-gos and the Runaways.
Sheila E. is a excellent drummer as well.

You can't just mention Lita Ford without some pics, videos.  Wink

The Runaways kick ASS!  bigthumbsup

My favorite female rockers would be Heart.
Yes there are guys in the band but Nancy Wilson is an incredible guitarist and her sister Ann Wilson is a phenomenal vocalist and she also plays the mandolin and flute.

The reason? Simple.

Guys start rock bands to get chicks. Girls usually have an easier time at getting the attention of the opposite sex than guys (when was the last time you saw male groupies?), hence no need to start rock bands.

As with most things in life, thinking with your crotch will generally provide you with the correct answer.
