England Vs Croatia World Cup Qualifier

Wed Sep 10, 2008 11:41 pm

So England go from a mediocre win over Andorra last week to thrashing Croatia 4-1:

It was a magnificent performance and more than coach Fabio Capello can have dreamed of.

Whilst I'm pleased about the good result, the inconsistency is frustrating.

In other news Albania beat Malta 3-0, Portugal lost to Denmark 2-3 and Bosnia stunned Estonia 7-0.

I'm happy for Albania.  Smile

C'mon, go easy on them! At least England have six points out of two games and didn't lose 1-2 against Luxembourg at home.  Wink

Yeah takes a lot of work to beat Malta...haha...but a win is still a win right?

Those Baltic countries surprise me when in comes to soccer...they fair rather well in big games.

Bummer about Portugal but hey...cant win them all!

I didnt catch the Andorra-England game...what was mediocre about it?

The fact that we only won 2-0 probably. Unfortunately the match was on Saltana (or whatever it's called), so I didn't catch it either.

Nice to see an Arsenal player doing all the scoring in tonight's game. Walcott definitely has the potential to become a world class player.

You can say that again. On saturday the Danish team barely scraped home a 1-1 draw against Hungary, and tonight they showed just how much depends on luck in the win against Portugal. It was still pretty much the same team, but at least this time they bothered to put some effort into even though the clock was running out.

Naturally, the team has taken the criticism to heart - and after tonights game completely boycutted the press  Yeah sure

The win over Andorra was not mediocre, it was a job well done. Some so-called "fans" are just fickle, if England had thrashed Andorra 8-0 it would have been, "It's only Andorra". The fact is that whether it was 1-0, 2-0 or 6-0 the England team would have been criticised, a no win situation. Yesterdays demolition of Croatia was sweet and satisfying, the thuggish Croats were becoming a little bit arrogant and too big for their boots in recent years. It's just a shame and a disgrace that the national team cannot be watched by 99.8% of the population. Santana Sports are holding English football at ransom by demanding silly money for rights to show highlights.

I think they need silly money to recoup what they've already paid for the tv rights.

And it looks like the negative feedback may be biting.....

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/orga.../11/television.englandfootballteam

Broadcaster Setanta - which owns the live rights to England's qualifying matches away from home - launched a last-minute attempt to become the people's broadcaster yesterday by airing unencrypted highlights of the match after rejecting an 11th-hour offer of £500,000 from ITV for footage.

Until England has won several games and played consistently well, I will still see them as a second grade national team. Whatever the problem is, previous management, the Premier League, players etc. they have to solve it. They should still take a good look at other nations such as Germany or Spain to see how it is done. Any kind of British sporting triumph is way overplayed be it the Olympics or football, I mean come on get over it, they won, we don't need to hear about it all day!

Uh at least they qualified for the Euros, and finished first in their group. They lost out against Portugal which was expected when looking at the teams on paper. Where were they English players? Ibiza? Mallorca? Still an abomination to English football history, they have been much to arrogant in recent years.

I don't particularly care about England as they are a bunch of useless tits! The football is boring, the team is stale, the manager is a foreigner and we couldn't even qualify for the Euro's!

And anybody who says it's all down to the manager... it's not, it's down to the team to perform, if they can't perform on the wages they are getting then it's time to get rid.

Give me a 500 mile round trip to watch Rochdale on a Tuesday night anyday over watching England!

No, I still stand by my statement that they have taken their first step towards revenge.

But, I didn't say they would succeed  Wink

This game was marred by racism in the crowd... a black English player was repeatedly harassed by chants of "monkey" from the fans.

Well, Croatia is a good win, especially away, they got 35 straight games without losing in
world and euro cup qualifying.
Capello surely is a different man compared with local coaches as Keegan and McClaren and a winner as well.
Next is Kazachstan, whom not played too good so far in qualifying.
