If You Could, Who Would You Choose As Potus 08?

Thu Sep 11, 2008 8:35 pm

Thread after thread on this site lately, has been bashing both sides. Between not enough experience and personal family issues, all the candidates have something in their closet and they probably aren't the best choices out there.

So folks, if we could choose any politic an out there, who are we going with?

My picks would be
Ted Kennedy, Dan Inouye, Neil Abercrombie or Carl Levin.

Other Candidates:

Al Gore
Bill Richardson
Barack Obama
Antonio Villaraigosa
Richard Riordan (yes, a Republican)

Can we change the constitution a bit, if yes, Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Jennifer was born in Canada, and sadly not eligible for the highest office in the land.

JFK. So... Kennedyesque.

Mayor Bloomberg would also be refreshing. Delving into fiction, I'd go with John Patrick Ryan, the man who didn't want the job...

Four months ago, Barack would have been at the top of this list. Now I'm not so sure. John McCain, of course, never made the list.

Bill Richardson. I was disappointed that he didn't fair better in the Democratic primaries.

Having him in the White House, amongst other things, would have probably eradicated the myth that you need a passport to visit New Mexico.  Silly

What about the real McCain, the one who cared about the environment, bi-partisan government, fiscal responsibility and reform?

As do the editors from The Economist, I want the real McCain back. With Warren Buffet as economic advisor, Condi Rice as Foreign Affairs goddess, and maybe a duo of Colin Powell & Sen. Murtha at the Pentagon, and someone who actually has a clue about infrastructure management and development in a new, taylor-made Sustainable Development Secretariat.

Quote:
Amendment 12

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate;

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

What constitutes a hero? Is serving in the military enough? If so, Bush the sequel is a hero. If the criteria is serving in combat so was Kerry before the Rep attack machine sunk him. (Incidentally I think that was for the better as he was an idiot) So is being a POW the clincher? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I'm just asking? It's all very subjective and I find it interesting that Kerry's credentials were swiftly washed away but questioning McCain in any way so induces the "but he's a hero" Pavlovian response.

Anyone that has served in the military is a hero in my opinion. I don't agree with the swift boat attacks that happened. The man still served and for that he deserves to get his name right at least. Kerry may look like Herman Munster but his name is still Kerry and McCain is still McCain.

I'd say
- Ron Paul (Adheres to the Constitution, American values and all that. I'm pretty sure he'd be assassinated before he could assume office in real life though...)
- Dennis Kucinich (Generally stood up for American values and such, He stood up to the Mob when he was Mayor -- if it wasn't for a serious stomach ailment, he would have been sniped)

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Um, no. Obama's strength is in domestic and economic affairs, and his plans actually make the most sense among all the candidates who have run in this election on both sides. Richardson would have been a great VP choice because he is a skilled diplomat who also knows domestic affairs.

So being a POW instantly demands respect? Well, for what McCain went through I respect that he did it and made it out alive. That said, there is no reason for me to respect him for supporting the asinine policies that have run this country into the ground the last 8 years.
