Who Has Bought A Weapon Lately?

Mon Sep 15, 2008 8:28 pm

I finally broke down and purchased the Bushmaster M-4 A3. A fine shooting weapon to be sure!. I fired about 500 rounds though it over last weekend. Only complaint was the Bushmaster magazine that came with it. Does not load very well needed a little filing on top to make it load smoothly. I also have 5 Ex "Military magazines" I purchased from the surplus store , they work great. I am now looking to scope the weapon , if you have any suggestions let me know.

Also purchased the Springfield Armory G.I .45 1911. Just the basic no frills version , simple and easy to use. The gun shoots well , again I had to work with the magazine a little bit to clean it up . Shot about 200 rounds though it , had one jam. Winchester .45 FMJ cycled though it very well.

Scope?

I'd venture to say that any of the Trijicon ACOG series of scopes would work fine if you're looking to actually magnify anything....they're usually in the $700 to $1200 range. I like the TA-33 3x scope, but I've also liked the TA-01 series.

If you just want optics to help you get on target quickly look at the Aimpoint reflex sights or the Trijicon Tri-Powers. Those are usually in the $450 range

I also like the EOTechs....I've got a 552. Same range as the reflex sights.

The Trijicon reflex sight using fiberoptic/trit lamp is also decent, but the tri-power is a vast improvement.

If you're looking for less costly (and you do get what you pay for in the scopes) you can find the Bushnell copies of the ACOG and EOTechs....but they don't hold good zeroes and they break easy. They're really there more for looks.

Does CS gas count as a weapon? If so, count me in.

Have you seen any M6 scouts for sale? I have been looking for one on and off, more out of novelty than necessity.

At first I thought you were going to say you bought a Bushmaster M242. If you had, I would want to come to your house and shoot.

I didn't buy it, but my dad gave me his S&W Model 59 this summer. I fired 50 rounds through it at the range last weekend, and it's a real corker. It's the first pistol I've shot with; it has a good feel to it but it's too big for me to carry.

The Glock subcompacts are looking very tempting tight now. I know that the Glock 27 in .40 caliber isn't a beginner's pistol, but if I can get proficient in firing my 9mm, would that be a reasonable carry piece?

Why not just get the 26, the same gun in 9mm?

You know, after further review, I'm thinking that may be the way to go. I may have gotten too hung up on the "larger caliber, greater stopping power" idea. From what I've read, a well-placed expanding 9mm round with an adequate load will probably get close to the stopping power of a .40 S&W.

Good choice! I have a Custom AR-15 that I will post pics of later. You really have a lot of options when modding a gun like that. Most of my friends like EOTechs but the ACOG's arent bad either.

I own both models and they are great. As you know the Glock 26/27 are pretty much the same size. The first pistol I ever shot was a Beretta 92FS which wasn't bad. I then decided to try a Glock 22 (Full size .40 cal) at a shooting range, and never wanted to mess with any other sidearm but a Glock. I like Glocks because they are simple, reliable, and accurate. They dont have an external hammer, safety levers, ect which is good IMO. I dont think you would have a problem with either gun.

They are the exact same size as they are the same gun with a different barrel, basically.

What's with all the Walter Mitty types with all the military gadgets on their AR's? You can hit accurately with only the Mark 1 eyeball out to 500yds if you practice. We sell alot of them to gunshop commandos who want to be tacti-cool...

I bought a Charter Arms .38 Undercover a few months ago. It's my spring/summer carry gun. Really good in close, but the accuracy truly suffers above about 7 or so yards. Been shooting it about twice a month (100 rds at a time) to get comfortable with it.

My Glock 23 is my fall/winter carry gun. I can drill holes just about anywhere I want at 15 yards with that. Especially since I put the Crimson Trace laser grip on it last year.

tacti-cool , thats good . ! I decided not too modifying mine at all. I really like it just the way it is , and since I dont plan on storming any houses .. it works just fine. I am teaching my son to shoot open sights right now , but may want to add ACOG later and tinker with it.

Here's a tip- don't ridicule the people who are buying your goods, and putting food on your table. Smile

For myself, I don't have any scopes, I do target rifle with aperature sights, and target pistol (Ruger MKIII).
