October LHR Meet: The Aftermath

Sun Oct 05, 2008 9:34 pm

Well, folks, it has come to an end. A great time was had by all. Despite the weather, I'm glad I made the effort to come and meet everyone.

I thought I'd take the initiative and start the official aftermath thread and share some of my pics (excuse the quality, as these are straight out of the camera and resized by Photobucket):

Since I didn't get everyones name and or username, please help me out identifying everyone:

The famous Green Man:

The Group, Day One:

More of the Group, Day One:

Group, Day Two:

I could have sworn ScarletHarlot was in this one, she must have slipped back inside.

The weather sucked, but that didn't stop us from paying a visit to the Myrtle Avenue spot:

Alex (MYT332) is bored, even with Duvet Man present.

Alex (MYT332) and ? (LHRjc?) watch me while everyone else watches the Kuwait 744

Jason (JRowson), Alex (MYT332), Duvet Man, and LHRjc

I learned many important lessons during my visit. The most important, however, is to never, ever, fall asleep due to inebriation during a meet:

Ok, now it your turn to share your pics and stories. As I said, it was a pleasure meeting each and every one of you. I this will definitely not be my last visit to the UK, nor my last LHR meet.  bouncy
I lift things up and put them down.

I love that strange expression on my face!

You know I saw the flash go off mid yawn and I just thought, 'damn it'! I wasn't too bored though, just a little cold and tired!

I'll stick some photos online tomorrow as I'm even more tired now and am off to bed shortly. BA delayed myself, Kirkie and LHRjc on stand this evening whilst we waited for some Libyan terrorists passengers from a connecting flight. Boo!

It was nice to see everybody again though. Kirkie is currently staring over my shoulder in shock at the last photo of him there! Comedy....

Oh and for the attention of those reprobates Pawsleykat and TupolevTU154: It is not a tea cosy on my head it was Hannah's bloody hat! However, it does hide the bald spot nicely....

It looks like a great time was had by all. I so wish I could have made it!!

Myt332, that hat, tut tut, although it is better than covering yourself in a duvet Big grin

Im definately coming to the next meet at LHR, I'll do everything in my power to get there, if only to laugh at me falling asleep whilst drunk Big grin

Looks like I missed a good meet, all that balancing things on your head and duvet wearing could have been really fun... certainly more fun than dodging storms and getting battered by high winds on the Channel Islands  grumpy

Well at least you posted some photos, which is better than none, now we need a photo with labels so we can work out who is who.

Just a homeless tramp of course. To be expected in that area of town. As long as he stays there and doesn't head to the more properous areas of St.Aines upon Thames  Wink

Well it was nice to finally meet some of you on Saturday. The weather was a bit rough, but at least the strong winds meant that Kirkie's smell was just about bareable - although in real life he made as much sense as he does on here. Disappointed that Skidmarks had a puncture on his mobility scooter and couldn't attend.

Hope you all enjoyed the rest of the weekend

Nonsense, we were just all jealous that you live out the back of a Renault Clio and therefore had your entire life inside. In fact there it is in the background.....

Oh, and by the way, we did actually see 1 plane at some point over the weekend. It's quite a rare sight so I did take a picture.

I should have been in that one, Phil - I did slip inside to grab my luggage at some point - probably right as you were taking the picture!

It was really great to meet all of you on Sunday. I was telling Mr. Harlot that now the Green Man feels familiar - now that I've been there all of twice.  Smile

I was at my gate by 4 pm - the taxi ride was very quick (and a rip off at 13 quid, but that's what expense accounts are for, eh?) and with no luggage I got right through security. Spent the next 1.5 hours in the Holideck lounge, which was kind of strange - I was looking right at where you guys were and was watching the landings. Would have preferred to be hanging out with Duvet Man and the gang!  Smile

Did you guys hear my plane go out or were you done by that time? It was getting kinda dark when we left.

You know, when I said last night that I'd upload photos from the weekend I think I meant to say that I'd upload photos of Gkirk as apparently that is all I took photos of pretty much! Oh well, here they are:

http://www.tmfy.com/anet/LHROCT08_DSC01438.JPG
According to Kirkie he is actually a nervous flyer hence reading the safety card five times over....

http://www.tmfy.com/anet/LHROCT08_DSC01444.jpg
Me and Kirkie on the way down. Let it be said that G-EUXG was Kirkie's first ever BA flight, first ever scheduled flight, first A321 and it was also taking him for his first visit to London.

http://www.tmfy.com/anet/LHROCT08_DSC01447.JPG

http://www.tmfy.com/anet/LHROCT08_DSC01463.JPG
God knows how but Kirkie was allowed in to the South Galleries Lounge at T5!

That's actually all I really took. I had some of LHRjc acting all hyper on a train but he didn't want them posted.  Wink

Well I'm sulking!! Thanks a lot ShyFlyer for posting a pic of me that looks, as my mum would say, like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards!! And there was me giving you guidance on how to get back to Wandsworth!!  Wink Big grin The wind and rain did nothing for the old barnet that day!!

Damn fine evening though. I really did intend to make it back again on Sunday (I really did want to meet ScarlotHarlet!), but the weather was so sh*te that I woke up Sunday morning, looked out the window and decided to make like RJ111...although I wrapped myself up in a duvet in the privacy of my own home, rather than in a very public field!! Big grin

Was good to finally meet GKirk...have to say that you were just as I expected fella!!  Wink

It was of course good to see some familiar faces too...turns out I didn't need that padding on my arm after all Alex...good to see you again mate! And Sean...well what can I say?!

So when's the next meet then??! Big grin

Awwww, I'm so sorry that we didn't get to meet...come late afternoon I felt so guilty that I didn't make more of an effort, but the bloody British weather got the better of me...OK that and the fact that I was mildly hung over from the night before!! Next time you're over I promise to catch that bus and make it to the airport...I have you to thank for so much when it comes to the whole "moving to Canada thing"!!

Thanks a lot ShyFlyer for posting a pic of me that looks, as my mum would say, like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards!!

Could have been worse. At least you were awake. And sober.  Silly

And there was me giving you guidance on how to get back to Wandsworth!!

For which I'm very appreciative!  bigthumbsup  The walk took a bit longer than expected, but it was a nice one at any rate.

Well folks, I'm now at Heathrow and have 2 hours to go before I board. The tour yesterday went very well and I managed to fill half of my 4 gig flash card. I was a wonderful trip, despite a few roadblocks, but I'm ready to go home.

Thanks again for everyone's kindness, it was a pleasure meeting everyone!
I lift things up and put them down.
