Sao Paolo And Santo A.netters

Mon Oct 06, 2008 2:16 pm

I could use some help. My wife is trying to find a local fixer who can help find accomodations and transport for her people who are going to stay down there on a project. Any help would be appreciated.

Restaurant and local living tips are also valuable.

Thanks

Are they staying in both cities? How long will they be there for?

As far as Sao Paulo goes, I would recommend they stay around the southern area of the city. We usually refer to as the Zona Sul or South Zone. Plenty to do and you don't really need to leave the area for anything (it's pretty large anyways) except to get to the international airport.

There is no air commercial service to Santos that I am aware of, but plenty of bus service. I don't know much about the city itself, but tell them to be minimalists when going to the beach. Flip flops, towel, tshirt, basic cash, and anything else necessary but keep it as close to that as possible. I haven't been down by those coastal cities in a while so I don't know how much thievery like that has improved (or not).

They stayed in Sao Paulo for the morning, and they hired a private bus to take their group to Santo where they're going to be staying for business. They are leaving a group of about 5 people there for a several month period.

Thanks very much for your input!

Well, if they are staying there for months then tell them to make sure to head north along the coast and spend a weekend at the island of Ilhabela. It's very nice and relaxing.

I'll pass that along...

my wife was trying to get cash for an apartment lease today and all the banks in Sao Paulo went on strike....does that happen often?

For the last 10 years, I believe that this is the first time it happened, due to the financial crisis we are passing thru.
Do you know in what area of the city is the apartment she is going to lease?
I´d recommend the "Jardins" area.
There is a great variety of restaurants in this location. Some very valuable ones and some very expensive. There are very good bars also.
But this neighbourhood offers one of the best living qualities of São Paulo. There she´ll be able to find anything she wants in a matter of minutes, by walking or by car.
If she wants to have a nice walk, along with many shops, restaurants and other nice places to hang around, I´d tell her to spend an afternoon at the "Oscar Freire Street".
This street is famous for being one of the most luxurious streets of the world with all the expensive brands stores that are located there. If she wants to have a good lunch, she could go to this street, eat at Tatou restaurant, and then, if she likes, have an excellent cake or pie at Cristallo or a good Haagen Dasz ice cream.
Here are some pics of this place (note that some construction were going on, but now they´re all complete):

There are lots of interesting places to visit here.
If she wants something more cultural, in Avenida Paulista there is MASP - São Paulo´s Museum of Art. It has some time I don´t go there, but it is great!! There´s also the Soccer Museum at the Pacaembu Stadium, which is brand new, if she is interested in sports, among others.

Well, I hope this post helps a little bit.

Rgs!

obrigado!

I will pass that along. They have found some apartments in Santos and they only need to go to Sao Paulo every so often (good thing since it's evidently a couple hours in traffic).

I will pass along your thoughts to Debbie....she will return tomorrow but she's leaving a team of 3 or 4 people down there for a long term project.
