4 Hours At Frankfurt Airport - What To Do?

Tue Oct 14, 2008 12:47 pm

Hi there

I'm arriving on LH779 at 5ish in the morning on Thursday morning, with a connecting flight out of FRA at about 9am.

Besides using the lounge, is there anything worth doing at Frankfurt Airport? Will I have enough time to clear immigration and check the landside out? I did read that they opened some landside mall of sorts at Terminal 1. What are the shop opening hours like?

I'll probably be very jetlagged, but any advice on what to do there for 4 hours early in the morning would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So effectively you can use the time between 6 and 8. That is still rather early. There is a very good view over the approach and part of the depatures in Terminal 2 at the McDonnel, but I know they didn't open before 7 a while ago. Also most of the shops may still be closed.

A ride on the Sky Train to Terminal 2 is always worth the few minutes it takes.

5 in the morning is of course a little early and not much is open at that time. In fact the visitor terrace, the airport forum or the guided tours all open / starts later in the day. But you might wish to visit McDonalds in Terminal 2. From there you have a nice view over the runways.
Four hours should be enough to go landside.
Anyways, have a save trip and an enjoyable time in FRA.

As many have suggested, The McDonalds at Terminal 2 is a great place to sit and take in the view...There is also a McDonalds in Terminal 1 that has a great view of Takeoffs to the West, as well as Landings to the east, if you don't want to clear immigration, The Sky Tram offers a really nice view, if you can figure out how to use it without having to go through Security or Immigration...

The sun rises pretty late in Frankfurt so even if you get to somewhere decent, there's not much you will be able to see at 6am. However, that time is very busy for long-haul arrivals so if you can get a good look at the landing runway you should have enough to keep you entertained for a couple of hours. McD's in T2 is a good place. Is the terrace still open?

You are sure that you are an airplane enthusiast ? You seriously ask what you can do in FRA - one of the largest and busiest airports in Europe with plenty of 747s, A340s, 777s etc...arriving and taking off
Try to find a nice place and enjoy the view..................................
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

Taking the small skytrain from T2 to T1 is also a nice thing, as it is free and you can see a lot from it.

Try to find someone who is connecting to the same flight as you and travelling in First Class. Get the person to invite you to the First Class Terminal Lounge. You will have the time of your life!!! Your sponsor to the FCT needs to be on the same connecting flight as you.  airplane
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde
