Any fans of his movies?
I am a huge fan of cheap low-budget movies from the 1970s and Rudy Ray Moore (Dolemite) movies were the best. I highly recommend checking out 'Dolemite', 'Human Tornado' and 'Avenging Disco Godfather'.
He also makes a cameo appearance in the movie Penitentiary II.
Not sure why the press is playing him up as a rapper/hip-hop celebrity. I've always known of him as an actor/comedian. I funny one too, back in his day.

R.I.P. Rudy Ray Moore.

I have never heard of Rudy Ray Moore or any of the movies that were mentioned above.

Must be a cult thing.

Indeed he is.
If you have an appreciation for those campy cult movies of that era, you'd love his movies. I just realized he did inspire a lot of rappers and hip-hop acts. Since I don't listen to that type of music, I was unaware of his influence in that genre until now.
I just love his movies.

I find it very creative when movies are filmed on an extremely tight budget and yet still get their point across.

I take you've seen those.
Dolemite was showing at The Red Vic a few months ago.  Cool
Did you ever catch a film there when you lived in San Francisco?

Well, if he'd have been in that true classic of 70's American Cinema, "King Frat", I might have known of his work.

But, oh well...

No, use to watch some low budget stuff during the 70's at the old classic Fox Redwood City. Two movies for a buck, can't get much better than that.  bigthumbsup

I like that one Episode of "Martin" where they had a "Playas Ball" and he was one of
the Playas.

Probably because references to his films ("Dolomite", in particular) are ubiquitous in rap/hip-hop--they would have done well to do a bit more homework before making that comment. In any case, a sad loss. I'll be making some time to enjoy some of the classics sometime soon.

Sounds cool. I need to see if they are still around. I don't go down the Peninsula that often.

I think they have a complete Dolemite DVD collection with all off of his classic movies in one package.

Amazing I had to find out about it here on A-net.

I've seen Dolemite (sorry, major bore) and Human Tornado (blaxploitation at it's "finest" and that's a compliment). The opening scenes in HT are hilarious..."Them ain't people, them's NIGGERS!" from the classic redneck law officer..."BITCH, are you FOR REAL" from Dolemite when said redneck officer finds him banging his wife and she says he raped her...Dolemite humping some honey all over the room with the bed shaking all around the floor....PRICELESS.
Bad acting, cheesy effects and those CLOTHES! Ahhhhhhh, I'm drifting off to a better place now.....

Check out the funky title tunes for a blast from the past!

Rest In Peace Rudy Ray...and "I AIN'T LYIN'....!"

Mr. Jonathan is my hero....  yes

Another great thing about that film is all of the classic stereotypes are in there; black, gay, dumb blonde, Italian-American, sluts, etc.
