Friday's Stupid Q:What'd Be Your Last Meal?

Sat Oct 25, 2008 2:08 am

Lets say somehow you knew that tomorrow's dinner is going to be your last meal ever. What / where would you eat?

I would probably go to an Indian buffet place and enjoy everything on the menu.

What's your choice?

A Double order of wings from the Anchor Bar, followed by a pair of Chicago style steaks (medium well) from The Keg. With an industrial sized vat of Vodka (Putinka) and Tang wash it all down with.

A dozen wings from a local pizza bar, big-mac meal, ice cold coke, and blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream and coffee for dessert.

Waffle House. Without a doubt. And I'd invite everyone I knew to come with me, so that I wouldn't have to eat alone, and then they could all mock me about how fast I can eat a waffle.

That sounds REALLY good.

But for me, a HUGE ethopian feast. Why? It's quirky. It's YUMMY. And they have great beer.

Good choice! Tempting for me too, but not quite.

My Last Meal:

Appetizer- Dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), the really good kind with actual lamb and not beef inside.

Main Course- This is a toughie. Either pasticio (Greek lasagna, more or less) or my Mom's bubble & squeak (sausage, potatoes, onions, and cabbage boiled together). Ideally, I'd get to have both.

Side Dish- My Aunt's "creamed potatoes". She'd slice the potatoes thin (Au Gratin-style), then cover them with real butter and heavy cream and bake them. Trying to make this dish more "heart smart" makes it not turn out right at all so I haven't had it in 20 years or longer, but for a last meal I think I can take the cholesterol hit.

Dessert- Another toughie. Either real key lime pie so tart that I wince with every bite or rum balls so strong they'll make me fail a breathalyzer test after I eat them.

A Cypriot meat Meze would be my final meal. I absolutely love a meze. Followed by a big lemon cheesecake, all washed down with a nice bottle of red wine I discovered in the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, absolutely delicious.

I don't...Taco Bell is my favorite fast food (well, except for In-N-Out, but that's a long way away). Of course it may just be because I don't eat it that often, there are only a couple in Manhattan and they're those nasty "Express" ones that don't have the full menu. I wind up getting "Fourthmeal" every time I take an evening flight to TPA and drive to Bradenton.

Let's see, last meal?

Anything served by, on, or with, a naked Jessica Biel...  Silly

And if restricted solely to the food?

Appetizer: the nachos at International Wings and Beer, at the Venetian Hotel in Macao. (the ground beef is fried in butter...'nuff said!), an appetizer pizza from Wolfgang Puck's place in the Borgata, Atlantic City, barbecue chicken wings from Lee Roy Selmon's, and the crab cakes from Merchants on the Upper East Side.

Salad: a good Caesar Salad

Soup: Lobster Bisque

Entree: Kobe surf & turf from Craftsteak, MGM Grand, Las Vegas

Side Dishes: Craftsteak's roasted corn and some garlic mashed potatoes

Dessert: some sort of chocolate layer cake.

Apertif: a glass of vintage port and a good cigar (Fuente Opus X)

A totally huge extra rare sirloin, creamy cheesy mash and a huge dollop of peppercorn sauce.

Or a huge bowl of my mothers home made beef and ale stew. Heaven.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either!

I had some leftover hot and sour soup today. It was excellent.
My last proper meal was last night ... I made steamed mussels in a wine and garlic sauce.

Tenderloin steak...nice crispy sear on the outside, medium on the inside, with a peppercorn sauce.
Fresh asparagus with Hollandaise sauce
Baked potato with sour cream & chives

Dessert? Either Tiramisu or Creme Brulee, with a honking great cappuccino....

Yummm.....

Oh yeah....all washed down by a nice Pinot Noir.

Same here... Whenever I'm back home in Germany from college in Texas I always have to have her cook some of the favorites that she makes. Including:

-Spaghetti
-Breaded Pork Chops
-German Spiced Speissbraten Roast with Rice
-Goulash (sp?) (not the soup but something similar with beef, curly pasta, corn, tomato sauce, and various assorted spices and herbs all topped off with some tobassco sauce).
-Meatloaf
-Beef Stew
-Pizza
-My dad's Ribeye Steaks or his Hamburgers

All of these foods were done with her own recipe and as I'm writing this, I'm missing them immensely...  drool
There is no way I would be complaining if I had any of these foods if it were truly my last meal...  Smile

My last meal would have to be something soft, so I don't choke on it!  Wink (I have trouble chewing and swallowing, with my small throat and jaw deformity.)

I would want to share my last meal with as many of my family and friends as possible.

Menu for my last meal, if cooked by Mom or myself:

Either of 2 main courses:
1) Pancakes! A nice stack of them--either with bacon or blueberries in them, with butter and applesauce.

Or

2) Homemade macaroni and cheese casserole with bacon in it.

Vegetable:

Either a "salad" of lettuce, hard boiled eggs (sliced), cheese, tomatoes, olives, and salami,
or--collard greens with butter on them.

Dessert:

Homemade dessert like apple or other cobbler type dessert

Beverage:

Grapefruit juice! It's my vice, my favorite beverage--either straight or sparkling.

Being forced to eat a mixture of honey, mushrooms, vegemite, brussell sprouts, durian, silkworms, kidney, liver, thousand-year eggs and coffee. Part way through eating all those loathsome items I would be committing suicide, thus guaranteeing that it was my last meal.

Hmmm... let's see-

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
vegemite

According to my Aussie friends who know my taste in other foods, I'd probably like it.

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
durian

I'd try it once.

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
silkworms

Well they don't sound good, but then neither do grits if you know exactly how they're made. I'd try them once.

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
kidney

Ick, no! They smell like urine when they're cooking (gee, I wonder why?), and no-one will ever convince me that they taste any better than they smell. My fascination with all things British ends at the exact point of eating kidneys.

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
liver

Properly battered and fried, chicken livers are quite good. Any other liver I'll pass on, though.

Quoting Allrite (Reply 25):
thousand-year eggs

Nope, no way. I make a point not to partake of cuisine that was (most likely) originally based on a drunken dare.

The meal's theme will be fish. Starters will be a salad with thin cut slices of fresh salmon from Alaska, New Zealand and Norway and also a salad with a mix of Hawaiian fish: ahi, ono, mahimahi and other local catch. The main dish will be Lobster Thermidor made from the world's finest lobster. I want the finest pastries and ice cream with meringues for dessert. I have to try thinking about the place... The Halekulani on Waikiki beach would be my first choice - I am thinking of Chef Garnier's restaurant La Mer with an outstanding sea view. I want only one kind of wine: pink Dom Pérignon 1993. A.netters that happen to be around will be invited. I think I will have a great time.
