Hi everyone,
I posted this in the last thread and was wondering about Pres Obama's Cabinet.

Sec Def, Treasury, State, and CIA director.

As for Hillary..I am not sure she'd want a slot in his Cabinet.

I wonder about McCain. He gave an honorable speech and I think will do whatever he can for Obama. His political career is over now so I don't see him trying to make Pres Obama look bad.

Better hold on tight folks this is going to be a wild ride the next four years, as we now have our first Socialist President.

Your taxes are going up, and we will be in a deep recession. The Military budget will be cut almost in half, and you just wait we will have another 9-11 kind of attack.

You can flame me all you want but you get what you voted for.

The Dems now control both houses and the Presidency. You haven't seen nothing yet.

We will become the United Welfare States of America or the Socialist States of America.

You screwed your selves.

I would say Former Sen. Daschle from South Dakota is a valid candidate for one of the big positions. He has also been by Obama's side the whole way.

Not really. Granted, he is not going to be President, but he still is the Senior Senator from Arizona, and his senority gives him great influence.

(Partial repost from the closed election thread)

This event in several respects reminds me of the Berlin wall coming down.

It is a rather similar mixture of elation, a feeling of historical significance — and some people's trepidation about how this change may develop down the road.

From my point of view this is above all a fantastic day for America, which does a lot to boost the image of the nation in the world even before the new president has been sworn in.

Thousand times better.

Republicans work to make this country better. Democrats since Truman have worked to bring it down.

It is a by-product of all the bad acid they did in the 1960's.

I for a while figured that we have entered a very dangerous time in our country as ex-hippies who didn't learn about civics in the 1960's enter positions of power in our government.

Unfortunately my worries are quickly becoming true.

Welcome to the USSA. I'm glad that I can remember what the United States of America was like, so in 50 years, I can tell my kids, and eventually their children. I can't wait to send more money to the government, for them to squander in someway that I'll never get use of. Makes you feel great, doesn't?

I'm a life-long Republican and I voted for McCain. And, yes, I was hoping McCain would win. Nevertheless, as an American, I can't help but feel an incredible amount of pride that my country, the greatest nation on the face of the Earth, has overcome so much of its past that it has elected a man such as Barack Hussein Obama as President. No matter what anyone's political stripes, this is an historic day. And no matter what Mr. Obama's political agenda, his election as President will do much good to overcome injustices, real or otherwise.

God bless BHO! God bless the USA!

McCain proved to be a true gentleman

The best to Patin as well, two excellent public servants and great people.

Obama is a smart man, able to overcome the Clinton political machine and getting the blessing of Warren Buffet no less. McCain has been a very respectable opponent who told his supporters they need to back the new president. Hopefully that will lead to better cooperation between democrats and republicans in the coming years.

Finally a CHANGE!! Sorry but despite all the differences, McCain represented the continuation of the US's worst president in history. In fact, W is probably the biggest reason why Obama won.
Now I hope that Obama will bring a new era with no wars, no more wmd lies, no invasion of other countries justified because they are part of the "axis of evil", and hopefully the US will go back to dimplomacy, and talking with the "enemies" instead of bombing them "just in case".

Too bad Bush still has a couple of months left though .. (how did he win the reelection is still unbelievable).

Congrats to Obama!

An amazing night for America and the World. I'm really proud of this, and America the Good rides again.

What is most moving to me is that Martin Luther King's promised land is finally here. This is America's own tryst with destiny, and far more important than any temporal issue.

A couple of thoughts:

1. McCain is pure class. He's a statesman, a hero, and a patriot, and the type of man who just doesn't come around in great supply. Arizona is lucky to have had his representation.

2. The U.S. Presidential election cycle is just plain cool no matter who wins. In January, we will witness the 44th peaceful transfer of power in accordance with the will of our populace as we have done for the last 220 years. No other power on Earth has that kind of tradition.

3. I'm personally disappointed at the outcome, but it's obvious the U.S. political tone has shifted to the left in the last 2-4 years. I can only hope that Obama's administration acts rationally in confronting the problems that lie ahead of us.

I wouldn't worry about Obama being a Socialist President. When you look at programs like Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, our support for farmers, etc. you can see that both Conservatives and Liberals and even moderates have continued these "socialist' programs,.

Obama has made it clear that your taxes will go up if you earn $200,000+ a year (or $250,000+ a year if filing a joint return. That "huge" tax increase will probably return the top rate to the Reagan years and we know what a socialist he was. Obama has also made it clear that he wants a 10% tax rate, but at the bottom of the tax scales, not the top.

I'm not worried about Obama taking us into a deep recession - Bush/Cheney and the neo-cons have already done that for him.

The military will get a cut as Obama wants to end spending $10 Billion a month on an Iraq war. He also wants Iraq to start using the billions they have in banks to pay for some of the things we are paying for today. I would also look for the $200 toilet seats to be cut from the budget, programs like the KC-X to be put on hold by updating the KC-135s that need it. I don't, however, believe that the Defense Department will be cut to the bone like it was after WW I. Wasn't there a Republican President after WW I that cut the military to the bone? Must look that up one day.

As for a terrorist attack, our exposure remains the same as it has since 9/11. In addition, the same people working to keep it from happening will continue in their jobs after January 20th. We're talking about good people who are several pay grades below the President and Congress who go to work every day to keep us safe. That will always be our front line of defense against terrorist.

The election is over. It's time to stop being focused on being a Republican or Democrat and to return our focus on simply being Americans.

I believe that Obama will focus on bringing very good people into his Administration. We won't have Cheneys or Rumsfields around any more (with luck) and I believe that he will work hard to be a president for all Americans, not just the rich.

I can honestly say I've never personally experianced communism but I have seen plenty of documentaries, movies and did some personal research on East Germany to know I would never want to live that life. I'm sure he realizes he'll be under more scrutiny but he seems calm cool and collective, Hopefully he can run the country the same way.

The election is over. It's time to stop being focused on being a Republican or Democrat and to return our focus on simply being Americans.

Excellent point. The level of hate on both sides is scary. I really don't like the climate of this country right now. Both McCain and Obama are giving good speeches along that path. (watching Obama right now)

I believe that Obama will focus on bringing very good people into his Administration. We won't have Cheneys or Rumsfields around any more (with luck) and I believe that he will work hard to be a president for all Americans, not just the rich.

I don't know. If he's more like Clinton then I think you will be right. If he gets hijacked by Pelosi and Harry Reid I am not so certain.
