New Years Eve Plans

Tue Nov 11, 2008 5:42 pm

Every year, I go to Seattle for New Years Eve. I love watching the fireworks on Space Needle, even last year's fiasco where the computers crashed and the fireworks did not fire. Anyway, I am wondering what happens in Vancouver BC? Is there a community celebration like in Seattle?

My plans are to enjoy it with my family. We have a boat with 12v search light; therefore, we can go on the river and enjoy the beautiful scenery while watching the fireworks from the causeway.

Work, either being in the air or at some place on this planet, but not at home for sure.

Like every year, I will spend New Year's Eve in Davos with my partner and some friends. What will happen exactly will be decided once we're there...

There have been in the past, it was called "First Night". However, due to the increasingly heavy police presence causing too many problems, most people have just given up and stay at home or go to private parties.

Hah, you know what's funny? I was in downtown LA on Sunday night, and they had a bunch of trees along one street lit up with Christmas lights and shit. It was probably like 55-60 degrees outside, but as soon as I saw the lights, I automatically felt much colder. I think I half expected it to start snowing.

Funny how Christmas lights are forever intertwined in my mind with cold New England winters.

Stay home, watch the ball drop, down some alcohol, pass out... Then wake up the next day wondering what the heck the next year will bring and it things will be any different...

Being the bitter, cynical SOB that I am, I'll probably be bitching and moaning on how I couldn't achieve my goal of getting laid one last time before year's end, how I probably wont get laid next year either since I'll still be stuck in PRC, and how life will suck as a flight instructor.

New years. Blaaah....  bored

For me its scheduled to be another Night on the Tarmac most probably doing Line Maintenance on the B737/757,unless a major check is scheduled.

But the perimeter of the Airport tarmac sky has a great view of fireworks on new years night.
That compensates  Smile

I have not thought about it yet. I know I am not staying here. I may go to Paris to see the old friends as in these times of economic slump I do not see much to celebrate about.  Sad

Not sure yet. Many possibilities. Maybe work to take my mind off of things. May go out with a friend. Might possibly go home. Might do something completely different. It all depends on what happens between now and then. Tomorrow is always subject to change.

No chance!! I spent 23 years in the RAF and missed every war we had, I'm buggered if I am starting now. Plus my office is considerably warmer and the women better looking Big grin

I've never really done anything much for New Year; I should imagine that this year, like most, will centre around watching Jools Holland and his little clique of oh-so-fashionable guests prance around on BBC2 having a party and singing songs. And then I'll go to bed at about 00:30 wondering what all the fuss is about, having had about three glasses of Coke and a Chinese takeaway.

I went to a party once, back when I was an undergrad student, and had a couple of drinks; New Year seemed even more insignificant after Tesco Value vodka.

I'll be drinking cold beers on Jost Van Dyke in the Virgin Islands, having flown in from SXM the day before. New Years Eve parties apparently legendary there so i'm told.

Anyone been and able to confirm?
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

I'm going to Dornoch.

They have an outdoor street party so I'm sure it'll be fun. Hopefully it won't piss down too much!
