The Shield- Final Episode

Wed Nov 26, 2008 4:19 am

Anyone watching? Thoughts on how the series is ending (with still about 15-20 minutes left in the episode)? I won't give any spoilers for a while as some people probably still haven't seen it.

I haven't really watched much of The Shield at all since the 1st season (which I watched in about 24 hours straight on DVD, 4 years ago or so). But I heard about the series finale last night, and decided to watch it.

I am very glad to see that even after 7 seasons, the show is just as gripping as ever - I can't even bear to walk out of the room during commercials for fear of missing something - same way I felt while watching the first season.

Only a couple minutes left here....but it's been a hell of an episode.

Ahhh, now I'll have to go borrow the DVD's for seasons 2-7......

EDIT: I was also very glad to see that just about all the main characters from season 1 were still there (at least, those who hadn't died in the show).

I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

I thought the series finale' was excellent except for the final 4 minutes. If the writers wanted us to read into anything with regard to Vic's fate (like failing to turn in his first 10 page memo by 6pm which means he violated his immunity agreement), it was quite a stretch.

I always thought Vic was a piece of shit and I was a bit disappointed to see him be the only dirty cop to skirt death or prison. That being said, it's possible losing his kids, becoming nothing but a mere desk jockey, and knowing he was at least partially responsible for Shane's acts of homicide/suicide (which was very predictable, by the way) is perhaps a punishment more severe than if he'd ended up in prison.

Trivia: Jay Karnes' wife played the role of Billings' lawyer.

This series pulled me in the moment Vic shot Terry in the opener, and I've not missed an episode in the past 7 seasons. The finale did not disappoint. I think I held my breath from the time they found Shane, through the closing credits. No complaints about the ending - it really stayed true to the sense of the series.

For Vic, losing everything in his life - his family, his friends, Ronnie, Shane, his badge, facing life off streets and enduring day after day of cubicle hell, is a fate worse than death or prison.

I got into the show late as well. I remember seeing previews for it when it first started, but didn't get into it until 2006 when re-runs of the early seasons were airing on Spike. I then over time rented Seasons 1-4, part of Season 5 & watched Season 6 as new episodes came out in early 2007. The only episodes I haven't seen are a few from the end of 5.

I figured at least one person would die & one would go to jail in the end, I just didn't know who. As it turned out, Shane took out himself & Mara...unfortunately, he took his son with him. Ronnie by far got the worst end of the deal. He thought he was home free until they came to arrest him.

I didn't even think of that, good point.

Ronnie

Poor Ronnie! "We were gonna run! Together! Your sorry? Your sorry?!!?!" I felt so bad for him then.

I like the fact that the show's creator exclusively wrote the pilot, and now, exclusively wrote the finale. I liked it; and am sad to see it go, but all good things must come to an end I guess.
