Happy Thanksgiving Y'all

Thu Nov 27, 2008 4:48 pm

To: The Rest of the World
From: Your American cousins
Date: 27 November 2008
Subject: excused absences

You may be wondering why we were not at our desks today. It's a national holiday. We celebrate the fall harvest by eating traditional foods to excess and then finding a convenient sofa to pass out on all the while pretending that we're watching what you refer to as 'American Football'

Those of us who are awake will spend their time plotting runs on department stores on Friday morning.

We are reliably informed that that activity may be curtailed. In addition, we can take up the matter of 'American Football' along with the turkey leftovers we'll be eating until January of next year.

Thanks for your support. See you Monday.

Signed

The United States.

What's on your menu today? With family, friends or otherwise?

Sounds delightful.

I'm the designated cook here, it's just the two of us, and the Dragon Lady hates everything traditional except candied yams-which I hate myself. So I'm doing up my famous Certain Death By Calories mac and cheese, we've got an apple pie that just came out of t
he oven, and a couple sixpacks of Coke as we're both teetotalers more or less.

this is the strangest November here I can remember-the temperature may hit nearly sixty, it's sunny and dry, and the lawn hasn't even died yet. Passing strange for the midwest. Global warming? perhaps.

Home alone, the mister is in Arizona with his family. I drove all up and down San Pablo Avenue trying to find anything open.......nothing but McDonald's, Nation's and hookers.

Ended up with a white trash breakfast at home.

Had twenty people at the table today! Turkey and stuffing and casserole and wine and beer and champagne and salad and sweet potatoes and green beans and.... awww hell, it was a lot of food that was all good!

It was a great time and fun and a lot of family! All in all a very good Thanksgiving Day. Thanks for asking Dougloid

And now its time for sleep!

I made the following for a bunch of clueless Ozzies:

Salad
Sauteed vegetables
Mashed sweet potatoes
Turkey
Gravy
Cranberry sauce
Stuffing
Pumpkin pie
Flan

And it all came out AMAZING. And they LOVED it. And a bunch of skeptical Ozzies took their first tentative tastes of pumpkin pie and then they came back for seconds!. And we drank entirely too much.

I think this has been my best Thanksgiving to date. I love to cook, I love to cook with people and for my friends, and I love to share a tradition that is so much a part of my life that without it I would have just felt empty.

that's what I'm talkin' about, Doc. You've probably done more for diplomacy in the region than the Bush administration did in eight years. One thing everyone can agree on is good eats and lots of them.

The only thing I might have changed is the pumpkin pie-I've been addicted to sweet potato pie ever since I bought my first one from a black Muslim on Imperial Highway up by the Harbor Freeway on my way into Garrett.

I did smashed sweet pertaters. I wasn't going to use them twice.

Although the Ozzies don't have proper pumpkins. Theirs are green with an orange flesh and they're actually squash. But they flatly refuse to acknowledge that. To us, a pumpkin is different.

The pie still turned out perfect.

Flan

Now THATS what I am talking about! Wana ship some to me?

I spent my Thanksgiving here in Michigan instead of flying home to California. I figured I will be home from college in 2 weeks anyways. I didnt go to any of my friends houses from here either because my buddy flew in from Germany and so I am spending time with him.

What did I eat/cook?

Kielbasa
Potatos w/ seasonings
Zucchini & Squash w/ seasonings & butter
Salad (mixed fresh greens w/ carrots & home made crutons)
Pumpkin Pie (bought from the store  Smile)
