George & Laura Bush Buy $2M Dallas House - 8500sf

Fri Dec 05, 2008 3:11 am

According to the Dallas/Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram newspaper, the President Bush and the First Lady have purchased a huge home in the swanky Preston Hollow section of Dallas - and there is a rumor that the U.S. Secret Service has purchased the house next door to the Bushes for $1.6M USD for their protection detail command center.

Big version: Width: 512 Height: 237 File size: 43kb
New Residence of George W. & Laura Bush in Dallas?

"The White House issued a statement Thursday that the Bushes have bought a home in Preston Hollow but didn’t release any other information about the home, saying the Bushes don’t have occupancy of it. But officials did note that the Bushes, who will also spend time at their Crawford ranch, lived in Dallas from 1988 until January 1995, when George W. Bush became governor.

A woman who came out of the house at 10141 Daria Place — a one-story, 8,501-square-foot home recently bought by Robert McCleskey, the Bushes’ Midland accountant, that is believed to be the future Bush residence — became upset when news photographers took photos of the exterior....

(The property) next to a vacant $1.6 million house under contract, news reports say.
Speculation is rampant that the Bushes would live in the home at 10141 Daria Place and that the Secret Service might occupy 10151 Daria Place, a 4,684-square-foot ranch home listed under the ownership of the Joan Northway estate. The two homes back up to properties owned by Gene and Roxanne Phillips and Tom Hicks, who bought the Texas Rangers from Bush and other investors in 1998, news reports say. Hicks also owns the Dallas Stars."

What do you mean? All I know is that if I was a neighbor, I just got some awesome security for my block. Awesome!

Good job W. Looks like a good house. Hope you find rest when you get out of office and return back to a more "normal" life. (I know it wont be all that normal but not as hectic as President)

Is this correct? The houses are next door, but the numbers are 100 apart???

It's in a part of Dallas I know well, it's a very quite area. You basically have an all-girls Catholic school down the street and very little commercial or through-traffic. Probably sound-proofed well from any noise that leaks over from the DNT.

Looks like a good place to enjoy the city life and stay off the beaten path at the same time.

That quiet wealthy neighborhood and lack of vehicle traffic is probably just what the Secret Service wanted - the Bushes new home is supposedly on a cul-de-sac, which makes monitoring people and vehicles easier for "the men in black".

I don't believe the Secret Service purchased any adjacent homes to the Clintons in Chappaqua, in fact one of the Clinton's neighbors was just convicted of killing his Wife.

They will probably close off the cul-de-sac and put up a manned guard gate like they did here in Houston for Bush Sr.

I doubt he will ever live there now that the address is published.

There is enough space on that lawn for a nice tent city to spring up.

Not trying to nitpick, but there are two schools closer to that house than Ursuline (the all girls school)...Pershing, a Dallas Public elementary school, which is located right at the entrance of the cul-de-sac, and an all boys school that is technically non-sectarian, but somehow has an episcopal chapel, and which happens to be my alma mater. Big grin

Madame Concorde--that vast lawn probably doesn't belong to Bush's residence---both the Hicks' and Phillips' residences are absolutely huge, so much so that the Phillips property resembles a wild animal park.

Interesting, you can "walk it" with GoogleMaps Street View feature:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=...%2C%20TX&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

And for a good overhead aerial view you can see it at Microsoft Maps.Live site:
http://maps.live.com/#JnE9eXAuMTAxND...M3NDYxMzI3JTdlLTEzOC45NTUwNzgxMjU=

And if you want property lines and to see other info, go to Zilliow:
http://www.zillow.com/homes/map/10141-Daria-Place-dallas-tx_rb/

Wonder how long till Google removes the street view (if the Bush's buy the house).

That's a relatively common occurrence in the States. My next door neighbors and I are 60 numbers apart and we could play catch from our respective front portches.

Funny thing is that it often means the area is also zoned for multiple units (condos, apartments etc.) on one property. At least that's how it is in my city now (used to be different).

Did you read any of that info? From the article:

"While the Bush property certainly appears comfortable, it is dwarfed by the 20-acre estate it abuts. That sprawling property (seen here) is owned by billionaire investor Tom Hicks."

So basically you navigated away from the original article, found a more sensational picture, and posted that. Three cheers for responsibility. The real house Bush is supposedly buying:

You'd be surprised how many neighborhoods in the states are gated communities. It's quite common actually. Many members of my extended live in these gated areas. Hell even my off campus college apartment complex is gated with an attendant there 24 hours... All it adds is an extra 15 seconds or so to open the gate...

There would be no way the Bushes would live anywhere outside the I-35E/LBJ/75 bubble. I figured a comparably equipped house in Highland Park, but in all reality, 2 Million isn't that much for an 8500 Sq Ft home in Preston Hollow. Notice that their property is bordered by a 17.5 million dollar estate, which is more of what you'd expect in that area. The house looks 1960/70's build, and must need quite a bit of work as well. But, this is probably the best location as this particular neighborhood is VERY isolated. It's almost like Dallas ceases to exist other than the bourgeois taste of big homes, and you almost feel like you are in a wooded neighborhood in the country. Even the roads in this area of town are crappy. AA former CEO, can't remember (Crandle perhaps) lives in the same area in a really fugly house. But, security won't be a huge problem for the other residents either as most people who live in this area already have off-duty cops and cop cars guarding their estates.

Very nice area and choice though. (Though the house isn't my style). Guarantee Ebby Halliday was involved on this particular purchase. And if you are from the Dallas area, you know who she is.

The big house is Tom Hicks' residence, and while it is carried on the tax rolls at around $42.0M, the home's renovations alone cost over $70M several years ago. they have very good property tax consultants.

The new Bush casa is nice, but not ridiculously-priced in the current marketplace; it is not a wildly-extravagent place.

Funny- they'll be quite near my home, but I am on the po' side of the tracks, so to speak. I am not expecting any dinner invites...

ROFL at the Bill Clinton and all girls school quote. You always gotta watch out from the horny bastard. messed up. Anyways, if Bush gets security even after becoming president, I would be damn happy to be on that block. The people who live in the area are definitely loaded.

The good old Bush, god I will miss him. From child to man with him as president. God Bless Him.

Oh well, Ged Bush 2016, that will be on my 2015 christmas wish list! I know here comes the bashing lol.

Though he is currently President, George W. Bush is relatively poor for those neighborhoods. However, when he was working for the Texas Rangers, he was also the poorest person on his block in Dallas at that time.

Sure he will draw a multi-million dollar book deal, and heavy speaking fees - but he will never be in the league with folks like his neighbors.

I would have expected that home to go as a tear down and a McMansion built on the lot(s).
