NFL Week 14 Thread

Sun Dec 07, 2008 11:36 pm

Well, I know it's not over yet, but the Steelers are imploding... What gives??? I wonder why the league's #1 defense is suddenly non-existent in this game... Is Dallas really that good? Is our Defense nothing more than a fluke?

Apparently they are...

The Eagles pulled the upset of the week against the G-men, 20-14. Now, if only Pittsburgh had an offense, and a defense that didn't slow down...

Darn it!

Well, maybe Pittsburgh can regroup from this and beat Baltimore next week...

How about the rest of you all?

Gee, they beat the Browns, who's funeral dirge made a stop in Nashville today. Can't expect much from an offense being run by a weak-armed Ken Dorsey, and a defense that is just worn down by the long grind of this season.

ESPN reported that the Browns are looking at both Marty Schottenheimer and Bill Cowher as candidates to take the reins from the bench next season. I think Romeo Crennel is a good guy, a solid and honest guy, but I'm also glad his days as head coach are numbered.

And I see the Lions quest for "perfection" continues.....

Wow the Steelers looked like crap in that game. Glad they sent T.O. packing. My Raiders continue to be the biggest laughing stock next to the Lions and the Jets are showing how much they suck and Chad Pennington is just waiting for his return to play them.

Hey, you know, Dallas was a very hot team, and they were even taking apart the league's best defense. Choice actually had over 80 yards for the day, most allowed by the Pit Defense this season. Big Ben has not been known exactly for coming from behind. Then again, I think this is at least the second time this season he's come from behind; at least 2 in a row now. I think they were down against New England last week, when they tied the game at 10, then shut them out in the second half...

I cannot believe in that 26-yard interception return for a touchdown their first lead since the field goal in the 2nd quarter. That, right after a Reed FG to pull the game to within 7, and then the Big Ben strike to Miller for their only offensive TD.

Hey, I owe all of you an apology for making the premature assumtion that Dallas would win; I just did not think that they were going to pull this one out. The way things were going, it looked like Dallas was going to be too much of a match for the Steelers, especially their offense vs the Steelers' Defense... Maybe from now on I will wait until after the final tick talks...

The fat lady was apparently getting ready to start singing... until someone apparently tossed her a roethlisberger to shut her up!!  Wink

Perhaps Dallas set the blueprint for Baltimore and Tennessee on how to stop the Defense...

As far as the Eagles game was concerned, yeah I did not get to see any of it. I had to work today at the hotel... Yeesh!!!

But hey, the G-men are officially in the playoffs (big surprise there) and the Eagles are still alove in the hunt for a playoff berth...

Agreed. I thought it would have been too cliche if both teams played each other last game of the season and were both 0-15 going into the final game. Game would probably end in a 0-0 tie.

When the season first started it was considered that both NFC wild cards would be from the NFC East - right now its so competitive that neither of the wild card teams may be from the NFC East. It's gonna come down to Dallas, Philly, Carolina, and Atlanta for those two wild card spots. Funny how two years ago, two 8-8 teams made the playoffs in the NFC - this year, 10-6 may be required for the NFC and even then it could come down to tie breakers.

The Lions lost again. They are now 0-13. I hope they break the record and go 0-16. At least if they are going to suck they should go all the way. A few years ago they went 0-12 and a lot of people around the D were disappointed that they won. I find it funny that we have so many people here, including me, that are rooting against the Lions and hope they go 0-16. Maybe then William Clay Ford will get the message and actually do something with his team.

For the first time in a few weeks, both of my teams won.

The fore-mentioned Eagles-Giants 20-14 at the very windy and cold Meadowlands.

At the opposite coast, the Patriots beat the Seahawks 24-21.

As a Steeler Fan...All I gotta say is..

I'm Glad we won..but we looked like crap.

However I also got to say...that I only got ot see the last (and best) 10 minutes of the game and from what I saw and heard....

Dallas played pretty well under the conditions.

Although...let it be known...that the Steelers D has Still not given up more than 300 yards in a game this season...Cowboys came Mightly close with 289...but they were stopped in the final Minutes...

And I still have to say..That I think the Ravens have become very strong....Playing in B'more will be tough....and if the Steelers want to win...they MUST improve their offence....

Yo Tomlin..Where are my Trick Plays?!

Belongs to the Same Eagles team.

How in the world can the Eagle tie such a horrible team, and then beat the Giants IN NY. I know it's the NFL and all, but jeez..

Oh wait, the Titans still have to play the Texans next week.. I better keep my mouth shut..

Oh, and sorry Falcon... But My Titans Beat up Your Browns... Maybe by this time next year you'll have a real coach.

Yeah, I know, I watched the rest of the game. As I was making that post, it was after they were stopped on 4th and goal. What I did NOT know, was that that 4th and goal stop by Dallas pretty much turned our Defense, as well as our lackluster offense, into 22 Incredible Hulks...

That 4th and G stop made them angry... Dallas was not gonna like it when they got angry...  Wink

But then, I have seen the Steelers virtually continue their train wreck of an implosion right after such plays have taken place...

Quoting BlueElephant (Reply 27):

That is very valid. However, I would have to say that you should give credit to Dallas' Defense in their ability to contain the one-two punch of Parker and Moore. On the other hand, I do agree with you, since they play against a very good rushing Baltimore defense, perhaps just as good as the Steelers. I do agree that they need to perform some tricks to have them scratching their heads.

They really need to address that this week. Otherwise, they'll each combine for maybe 30 yards on as many carries, the game will fall on Big Ben's shoulders and those of the Defense, but the Defense can only do so much. I think it would be a very low-scoring game in Baltimore's favor should that happen IMO... something like 9-3 Ravens...

unless... of course, if Polamalu or Townshend pull off another pick-6 in a game like that (making it 10-9 Steelers), but it is about as lightning striking me twice tomorrow...

I was listening to ESPN today and John Clayton was saying that Bill Cowher is not interested in coaching Cleveland. He thinks Cowher might go to the Jets since he [Clayton] assumes that Mangini will be out of a job if the Jets don't win the AFC East.

He also mentioned that Marty Schotenheimer might be the one.
