Transportation Of Firearms Through ORD?

Mon Dec 08, 2008 1:36 pm

I travel with firearms all the time. Domestically it is no big deal as long as you check firearms in your suitcase or in a hard sided gun case. Of course I declare all the arms and show that they are unloaded. I have brought rifles and handguns through many airports in the US. What are the rules in ORD? Chicago has some really stupid laws regarding handgun, and some types of long gun, possession within the city of Chicago. These laws only seem to deter the law abiding. Since ORD is technically the city how would that work? Would I be breaking the law to bring restricted weapons into that airport to check as baggage even if I was transporting them to or from a part of Illinois where they were not restricted?

As long as you don't take possession of them, it shouldn't be a problem. I think it has to do with the interstate commerce stuff. I'm sure that Fedex and UPS have handguns going through ORD every day.
