Friday Nostalgic Thread: Lava Lamps!

Sat Dec 13, 2008 7:11 am

Do any of you own a Lava Lamp, or have you had one in the past?

Do you like them? What do you think of this piece of 1960s/1970s psychedelic decor? To me it reminds me of some strange alien technology, those blobs of wax floating around in liquid, and it's quite mesmerizing.

As for me, as of last Saturday, I am the proud owner of a Lava Lamp!

Mine is the "Lava" brand, and it has clear liquid with green wax blobs in it. I keep it in my UCSF studio apartment so I have something to groove to each night!

In my embryology lab at UCSF Medical Center here in San Francisco, there is a Lava Lamp on my lab bench, right next to my computer. The first thing I do when arriving in the lab each morning is turn on the lamp and let it do its thing all day whilst I'm there messing with embryos. This one has blue liquid with yellow wax blobs. This Lava Lamp belongs to my lab professor.

What are your Lava Lamp experiences?

I enjoy them though never enough to have bought one. Maybe soon.

It was only a matter of time before you started to embrace the stoner/hippie culter here in San Francisco!  Silly
LOL!

Image if you took these little white paper tabs and watch it. That would be a far out trip.  Wow!

I do own two lava lamps.
One has a brass base with tiny holes in it. The liquid is gold and the lava is red.
My second lava lamp has a black base, clear liquid and black lava.

Yep, I've got my own. In fact, here's the exact one.
